My Time Machine backups aren't running automatically. I can do a backup using the "Back Up Now" menu item, but they won't run automatically.
Any ideas what to try?

You will need to wait until Apple releases it. Probably within a few weeks if not sooner.

Same problem on our media computer (Late 2009 Mini - was server 10.7.5 then 10.10 bumped to 10.11) with Time Machine backups not occuring automatically to a Drobo 5N NAS with a TM share that still works for other machinces on 10.10 or earlier. Deleting TimeMachine.plist also did not correct the problem. It also stays on playing iTunes so no sleep/wake backup testing done.
May I ask how you know this issue is fixed in 10.11.1?
FlyigDiver has likely signed up for Apples beta test program and therefor has access the the beta releases of OS X.
YOU can do a search for the program on Apples site if you are interested in finding out more. That being said o don't recommend joining and/or installing beta system software unless you are really sure about what you are getting into.

Are you sure on that? I've been running El Cap beta's for quite awhile and I'm currently on 10.11.1 (15B38b) and I'm still having the issue
I just installed official release of 10.11.1 and it did NOT fix the issue for me. Still skipping backups.

Yep you are correct. It still does not perform scheduled backups. Only when you manually backup. However, I think mine backups eventually just one time after a restart. Don't know what FlyignDiver was talking about, but he needs to do some more research. By the way, is yours a clean install or upgrade? Thanks, Dean.
After installing 10.11.1, Time Machine did an initial backup at 4:09 p.m. followed by one at 4:23 and 5:23 p.m. However, it skipped the one scheduled for 6:23 p.m. CST. I'm gonna monitor the situation to see if further backups take place or not.
All 3 machines I have personally seen this happen on are all upgrades of various versions.
On my Macbook I again reset Time Machine by deleting the .plist and started from scratch (excluding almost everything to make backup small). It still skipped all future backups.
I have seen it where some machines it will kick off a backup if the machine has been asleep or off over an hour when turned on.

One of the Beta releases (the one the day I posted) fixed the issue. Backups ran fine ever since then. UNTIL I installed the official 10.11.1 release this afternoon. No backups for the last 6 hours. Grrrr.
PS - I forced my iMac to sleep, then woke it up. A backup is now running.
No, it is not working in 10.11 or 10.11.1. Most people probably don't realize this is not functioning correctly. It does run after restarts or wake from sleep or manually.
Everyone needs to send Apple Feedback if they want this fixed:
Apple knows. I submitted a bug report that was closed as duplicate.

I just submitted one through apple feedback and the more that reports, the more important of an issue they will consider it.
As I said, most people probably don't realize it and are not complaining about it.
