WD MyCloud NAS drive not accessible in El Capitan

My Western Digital MyCloud NAS drive (connected to my wifi router) is not accessible via the Finder in El Capitan.

It was working fine in Yosemite.

Now I have to manually connect to the drive (Command + K and provide NAS server URL). Even that is not working properly. At first the afp protocol was working. Now its not. Stopped working when I initiated Time Machine backup over that connection.

SMB and CIFS protocols are working but provide READ ONLY access.

Please fix this asap. Something in El Capitan has broken the mechanism.

I read in forums that El Capitan beta was working fine with WD MyCloud. Only the final release seems to have messed up the connectivity.

hey folks,

I know this post is a bit old and you are all trying to recover from black friday, but in case you are still fighting this issue, I have discovered that the WD user password is limited to 16 characters... hugh.... mine was 20 and connection fails all the time with AFP or SMB but works with web access. I have discovered this because the only option remaining to test was thinking password was screwed up... but by resetting on WD admin user page I got this error saying that password is limited to 16...

Changing password length resolve the problem.

I have the same problem after update to El Capitan on accessing my Lacie 5BigPro. Latest update doesn't help (10.11.3).

But i found out the solution finally (not for those with windows PC on the same network)

Just disable "SMB" protocol and only enable "AFP" on your NAS. (delete your keychains username/password)

I think you could see your drive and could connect to it without any problem.

I also had this problem and scoured the internet for an answer with no luck. I stumbled on the fix!!!

Open the WD MyCloud Dashboard in Safari. Navigate the menu at the top to get to settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the General tab and turn on Time Machine under Mac Backups...... Voila!!!!!

For the simple utility that finder provides, it should be bulletproof after all these years. Sadly it doesn't support NAS devices well unless they are apple logo'ed. I am constantly being pushed to Linux by Apple. Steve Jobs is sorely missed.

Setting a fixed IP on the MyCloud may help resolve. Then make a link to the Shares on the NAS and put in a floder. This forces remount when you access the links and avoids Finder's horrendous failures.
