Battery status indicator for wireless keyboard - El Capitan

Did some quick searches here at Google/DDG. Could not find anything.

So along with the "secure empty trash" option, it appears that the wireless keyboard battery status is missing too? Has anyone else noticed that and/or have a fix?

I can still see the Magic Mouse battery status.

Personally I did try to get the power levels for the keyboard and mouse instruction got me nowhere, with online Apple site.

However this Apple Support Communities section had a member who knew what to do to find the power levels, and left instructions.

I followed these instructions and found the power levels for my late 2015 21.5" iMac, through Bluetooth icon (top left of screen)..

Once the power feed has been connected I can see the power level rise on both the keyboard or mouse..

Problem solved for me at least.

Looking at it candidly, an earlier than December 2015 Apple model has a different approach so system preferences can work for some.

Whereas some/others have to use the bluetooth icon approach..

Either way it should be possible to get the power levels, using either system preferences/ bluetooth icon..

So far as I know, the Bluetooth option always worked. I never used it until El Capitan initially broke the System Preferences indicator (now fixed). It was pointed out in the early part of this thread I believe.

I know that my old iMac cannot take full advantage of the continuity features - I posted something about that elsewhere. So this must be hardware related. I can only suggest that people feed this back directly to Apple through the site I posted above.

My guess is that this is a SW configuration management problem. They have to provide different SW builds to each hardware configuration that they support. And for some reason, the newer iMacs on this (relatively minor) issue have yet to be accounted for in their CM.

Wish I could verify that, but I can't. I solved the problem another way.

I bought a non-Apple keyboard and it was delivered 2 days ago.

So I put my Apple keyboard in my storage unit yesterday, since I won't be needing it.

And this morning I installed the 10.11.4 update.

For anyone wanting a better keyboard, you've got to check this one out.

It's made for Mac & iOS, has a backlight and battery indicator, is stylish with black keys, is rechargeable via USB and is very highly rated (4.5 stars on Amazon). And it can connect to three Apple devices.

In other words, it's what Apple's keyboard SHOULD have been!

I won mine on eBay for under $50 shipped.
