iTunes 12.3 with el Capitan not responding

I just installed OS X El Capitan on my iMac and my iTunes (12.3) has not been working since. When iTunes is open, I can't click on anything. I know it's not a mouse problem, because the mouse works with any other application or program.

Same or similar problem. I tunes play but the user interface hangs stops at say 4 second and doesn't pick up the next song until 34-40 second later on the interface. Beach ball of death frequently Haveto allow massive amounts of time to load and find the iTunes library

Happen right after the latest El Capitan Update.

I was told when I spoke to Support at Apple yesterday that it was their servers. I checked earlier today and it's MUCH faster. You can check with them about it. Also other parts of iCloud were similarly affected. That should be a good clue that it wasn't your computer... Try on other devices that were working first before you panic. That's my 2¢.

My issue is that I had 12.3.1, had the issues, reverted to 12.3.0, no problems, iTunes (accidentally) auto updated to 12.3.1 (before I found the right prefs to change), and the issue was beyond just delays/hangs. If I played a video, the sound would play for a minute or more before the video showed up. Another problem, the video played in a new "space"/window rather than atop the iTunes window. All of that is local files etc. I don't see how Apple's servers would cause such problems for my local, on hard drive files. All back to normal again after I returned to 12.3.0.44. For me, anyway, more problems than just slowness. I think there are bugs in the 12.3.1 update. I'm certainly not going back to 12.3.1 any time soon...

Sorry, Russell. My advice was to someone else who experienced an issue with specific functionality. I did not imply or state that the solution I was told about was to anything other than my issue, rather it MIGHT be related to someone's issue regarding slow performance that I reported in the thread started by that poster and it was directed to him. If it helps someone else, great. If not I'm sorry. BTW, I'm not an Apple employee and they generally try to help with issues. If it didn't work for you and you now have success with iTunes' older version that's nice. My iTunes is better now on 12.3.1, that's all I can say, and fixed without further intervention on my part. It's very possible this has been rectified on its own. Hope so. I didn't see you particular problem before. I also didn't see any posting of status.

Good Luck!

HI David, did you get a fix for your particular problem, because I am suffering the same issue. Everything else seems to work ok, and my content is there etc., but having signed out, I am unable to sign back in. If I click on the sign in icon on main window nothing happens, no drop down menu or anything. If I try to access from Store in menu bar, sign in doesn't work there either. The same for any other choice there like authorise, deauthorise and so on. All other aspects of functioning and menus are fine though, so it just seems related to the store account part.

HI Wendy, I am glad I am not the only one! For added info, I am on the latest version of EC and using the latest iTunes version 12.3.1.23

i have the same set up on a MacBook Pro retina and am still signed into iTunes on that. Everything looks ok, but I have found that if I try to select Account Info from either the sign in drop down or the footer menu in main window, it doesn't respond at all. The same goes for the menu option View Account from the top menu bar. This doesn't respond either, whereas everything else does.

Gotta be a bug, surely?

Update on this: I logged out of my account on my Macbook Pro Retina, and "what a surprise"!! I can no longer log in. Problem is exactly the same as my iMac now with non-responsiveness of anything to do with my account and inability to buy anything etc., because of course I am not logged in. However, my content is all there and playable/viewable.

😟

The takeaway from this would be DO NOT UPDATE AND DO NOT LOG OUT!

No, I never found a solution. In the end I reverted back from El Capitan when I started having Mail issues in addition to the iTunes account freeze. Once I'd reverted the issues went away, so there was no long-term consequences to my iTunes account. I'd thought to wait until the .1 release to try again, but given your similar issues I may wait some more....

Apple could care less whether these versions of itunes work or not. It is sad that they are building lousy programs now. iTunes 12.3 to 12.3.1 are some of the worst versions along with El Captain. Looks like Tim Cook only cares about rushing out products. Is Apple on the way to becoming just like Microsoft with garbage products and updates.

Oct 26, 2015 3:32 PM in response to Cedric Frenette

Ive been having problems with iTunes responsiveness since the introduction of iTunes 12. It seems to get worse with each update.

It now takes 15 minutes for my 2011 macbook pro 8gb ram 1tb ssd to open iTunes. Once its open and the spinning ball stops after another 5 minutes I one chance to click something. After that initial click I have to wait another 5 minutes to do anything and this repeats itself indefinitely. This is the most frustrating experience I have had with Apple since 2000. I don't understand how Apple could let their iTunes team screw up like this.

I have to add that there are no other functions that my computer has problems with. I am running pro grade audio programs with no issues whatsoever. I know that this is not confined to my machine because other people are having the same problem. When is apple going to fix this???????????????????

Im under the assumption that whats screwing things up is "Apple Music" seems to me that ever since it went live the problems started happening.

APPLE if you are listening please separate iTunes from Apple Music and let them live in their own separate worlds. I just want a music player that does what it did well for the last 10 years.
