el capitan nikon transfer 2 not showing photos

Since the El Capitan upgrade my settings were changed from opening Nikon Transfer 2 on plugging in of SD cards to "Photos" (that god awful pathetic effort for a photo management program).

I have gone into Image Capture and change the settings back to Nikon Transfer 2 when SD are plugged in, however when it opens it can't find any images on the SD cards, this appears to be a common issue when searching other forums.

I use the nikon software to manage the import of my images to Aperture.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I wanted to clarify some stuff on this as this has been bothering me for a while and this is the first post that comes up every time I try to fix it. Success today.

The image capture app is the right place to start but to get it to work with Nikon Transfer 2 you need to take a couple more steps.

First, Go to the Nikon page and download View NXi. I read it had a newer version of Transfer 2 that is compatible with el capitan.

After you install that, go back to the Image Capture app and click on that tiny button on the lower left hand side and it will give you the option to change what happens when you connect a camera or SD card. Select other and point it to the nikon folder in you apps folder. click that and then click the View NXi and then click the new Nikon Transfer 2 app. That did the trick for me.

This really messed up my work flow as I use the nikon transfer to change the file names I have been using for years. I had to download to an older computer and then sneaker net them with a usb to my computer.

I just upgraded to El Capitan recently and discovered that while I could open Nikon Transfer 2, it would not see any of the photos on my iPhoneSE. I noticed that the Photos application would start up whenever I connected my iPhone so I went through the "first time" process in Photos and eventually got to the point where it wanted to import my photos. The first issue is that Photos didn't see the iPhone photos until I unlocked the iPhone (must be a new security feature). I was then able to import the iPhone photos into Photos (leaving the originals on the iPhone). I then selected my iPhone in the sidebar and unchecked the box "Open Photos for this device". I then unplugged my iPhone and plugged it back and the photos then appeared in Nikon Transfer 2. I suspect that when you check "Open Photos for this device" in Photos, that prevents any other program like Nikon Transfer 2 from seeing the photos on the device. Sidenote: I had Nikon Transfer 2 installed before upgrading to El Capitan so I didn't have any problems installing the Nikon software.
