Apple Mail VIP Mailbox not working Properly after El Capitan Update

I have recently update to El Capitan and have noticed that my VIP mailboxes in Apple Mail are not collecting as usual.

Some mailboxes have no email and others have only 2 and the maximum is 6.

I have unselected each VIP and reselected them. This didn't make a change. I launched the application. Still nothing. I restarted the computer, same result....nothing.

On my iPhone, all of the emails are in the VIP mailboxes. When I look at the inbox on the server (our company uses gmail as the host), all of the emails are there.

I can search inside the "Inbox" (not VIP Inbox) and find the emails no problem, but that's not what I've been doing for years with VIP.

Is anyone else having this problem? Do you know of a fix?

Any help will be appreciated.

This fixed it for me as well (thank you!) However, now when I scroll down the VIP message list, it goes kinda slow and the infamous 'beach ball' keeps showing up. Is anyone else having this problem?

Note the this fix ONLY SORT OF fixes the problem. The VIP folder is supposed to be able to show all the VIP messages IN YOUR INBOX (or in all mailboxes if you choose)

This fix (at least for me) will show VIP messages in ALL mailboxes, but still will not show only the VIP messages that are in my inbox only.

This makes VIP much less functional for me, as I used to make sure I read each VIP mail and deleted it or filed it in a folder. Now they all appear.

This worked great for Mail in El Capitan, but I'm having the same issue in iOS (currently 9.2.1). The VIP boxes are empty if the email from the person isn't in my Inbox. I use Action folders to sort my email, and once I move a message there from the Inbox it disappears from the VIP box. If I move the message back to the Inbox it reappears in the VIP box, so I know it's the same issue. I just can't find the analogous setting on the phone to View -> Sort By -> All Mailboxes so the messages still appear in the VIP box when I move them out of the Inbox.
