This works because the device then begins to functions as a class complaint device.

"A class compliant device is one that does not require an extra driver from M-Audio to connect to your *Windows computer, **Macintosh computer, or iOS device. A class compliant device uses drivers that are written by Microsoft or Apple, and come pre-installed on the computer."

Just to give an update...I've made progress - and I haven't made progress! Thanks to the suggestions in this post the Fast Track Pro does appear as an output source. However, because I use the digital output, I think I've hit another wall. All I hear is "white noise". If perhaps I was using one of the RCA outputs I may have better luck. I hate to take a step back, but for now, that may be the only way to hear actual audio. Thanks again for the great insights!

El Capitan runs my M-Audio Fast Track Pro ...beautifully ...BUT ...there is no ability within the OS to control S/pdif. I found that the sample rate can be adjusted in the El Capitan Preferences window <midi set-up> ...but still no way to utilize the S/pdif -which is important to me because I like to plug the DVI into my HDMI TV for Netflix etc ...but using analogue you get a ground loop hum (or static).

I'm going to the Apple store today. The only alternative I see unless they can suggest a new sound card to buy, is for the time's I want to have my TV connected to my MBP -don't use the sound card but get a 3.5 -Toslink cable and go directly from my computer into the amp.

xoxo 🙂 I appreciate any ideas you have.

Hey guys, I have just bought a used M-Audio Fast Track Pro and connected it to my Mac which runs on El Capitan and it was working fine. Then I have upgraded the fast track firmware successfully from the Avid website then my mac can't read the fast track at all like before the upgrade. I have been searching for hours on how to solve this problem and I have followed all your comments and suggestions on this thread but still no luck. I have manually tracked and deleted every file on my mac that had anything to do with the M-audio fast track pro, then I restarted the mac but no luck. Anyone has any suggestions for me plz?

Hi there,

a friend of mine sold me his old fast track pro for a couple of bucks and I wanted to work with it now. I recently updated to El Cap. and was glad, that I found this site before I could install the drivers.

So, I'm working with propellerhead reason 8 and when I plugged the FTP in, it recognized it as a usb audio device with the name "fast track pro" and I was able to rout the audio-output from reason to the FTP, while all other sounds came from my logitech-speakers - so far, that's exactly how I wanted it to be.

BUT, somehow I'm not able to record vocals. I'm using a røde NT1-A and it seems to detect that there are 2 inputs within the FTP, but I can't record any bit of sound through the thing (I made a test run wit audacity, but also no luck)

Did I miss something, or would that have normally worked with the drivers?

I have no clue, can someone help?

Thanks 🙂

This worked on my side as well. Anybody having these issues should just follow these steps and restart your computer. Don't install any drivers for M audio fast track pro after the restart. And then you will be back doing what you love. Its that simple, I wish there was a way to make this post the the first go to topic after somebody searches this issue

This thing has literally messed up my whole system, I don't know what modifications I did but now I can't install any graphic card CUDA drivers because the system is saying 'M-AudioFastTrackPro.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.'

I'm really lost here, can't work on Adobe Premiere pro...

Help, please

I just built a new PC and have been going through the process of installing all my music production software into W7 (as i already had a spare license). When it came time to make some choons my FTP wasnt even recognized.

So i went to get the driver from AVID. And to my complete surprise there was a BRAND NEW DRIVER!!! The first in 3 years, when i looked at the release blurb it says that it is their LAST EVER DRIVER for it and its ONLY for W7 and W8/8.1. They state that W10 WILL NOT be supported.

Essentially, AVID want shot of this thing. So they're tossed it into the legacy pile.

So all you Macbois, go buy an Apogee to match your shiny overpriced aluminium Icon

(Sorry for the dig at the end, i couldn't resist)

This seems to be now a LOST CAUSE.... just went to the AVID website hoping to see an update..... well there was an update.. and the update is that they are not going to support the Fast Track Pro with El Capitan.

Last Updated : March 23, 2016

The following audio interfaces will not be supported on OS X 10.11 (El Capitan). The last supported operating system is OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).

After a lot of research and troubleshooting I've found how to get the M-Audio Fast Track Pro working on El Capitan:

User uploaded file

1. Reinstall latest Driver from http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Pro-Drivers

2. Copy the Driver from System/Library/Extensions

3. Paste the Driver to Library/Extensions

4. (Optional) Delete the Driver from original location System/Library/Extensions (it doesn't make any difference)

5. Restart the Computer > Go to System Preferences > Sound > The M-Audio Fast Track Pro should appear listed under the Audio Devices drop down list.

If still not showing try these steps instead:

1. Reinstall latest Driver from http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Pro-Drivers

2. Copy the Driver from System/Library/Extensions

3. Paste the Driver to Library/Extensions

4. (Optional) Delete the Driver from original location System/Library/Extensions (it doesn't make any difference)

5. Open Terminal

6. Type "cd Library/Extensions" and hit Enter"

7. Type "sudo chmod -R 755 copiedkextname.kext" and hit Enter again

8. type "sudo chown -R root:wheel copiedkextname.kext" and hit Enter one more time

9. Restart the Computer > Go to System Preferences > Sound > The M-Audio Fast Track Pro should appear listed under the Audio Devices drop down list.

Important: In my case I had an old version of the Driver located in Library/Extensions. You can go ahead and remove the old one and replace it for the new one (Step 3) although I think it doesn't make any difference if you leave both .kext files there. By the way I think this is for all hardware Drivers that were working fine under Yosemite but not in El Capitan.

I hope it works. Good Luck!

Thanks for this. Are you able access your S/pdif jack? Before I rolled my system back to Yosemite I fooled around and found I could adjust the sample rate in El Capitan/Preferences/midi set-up ...but still no controls to enable the S/pdif -which is important to avoid ground loop hum (or static) when plug the DVI into my HDMI TV. Thinking now ...I never tried just switching my amp to Auto-Digital input to see if it was getting the S/pdif signal.

Cheers.

off topic ...waiting for the newest Mac Pros -hope they update the line & not just the MBP's

You are welcome. I'm glad to hear it worked.

I really don't use the S/pdif jack but I've also noticed It's disabled so I'm unable to control it as well. I hope you had luck switching your amp to Auto-Digital input to get the S/pdif signal.

By the way sorry for my very late response...

Cheers.

PD: waiting for a new Macs line update as well 😎
