I too, am experiencing major issues with my iPad after upgrading to IOS 9.0.2.

- It is sluggish - I can't get from one window to another i.e., swiping from left to right or right to left.

- It keeps freezing up and reebooting on its own (restarting).

- My battery life is going down really fast. 100% to 85 % in about 10 minutes.

- I had to turn off a bunch of the features, such as "motion" just to get the iPad to function.

- I wish I had never loaded this update.

- I hate using my ipad now.

You don't have to give up on your iPad but you may have to give up on your old backup as Apple likely told you correctly, the backup could contain corrupted data, it is not usual but still common. Just restore the iPad as New - yes it is a pain as you have to re-download all your apps and reconfigure. I had to do that on my iPad Air two weeks ago (had a corrupted app/system), took me many hours of work to get everything like I wanted but my iPad works great now. Here are the instructions:

Full Restore:

Please follow the instructions in the article below. The process is rather straight-forward as iTunes will guide you along the way. You will have to disable Find my iPhone/iPad first. Don't forget to set it back to On when you are through and also set Send Last Location to ON.

Connect your device to your computer. Then import all your photos from the device to the computer and copy all important documents directly to your computer as well. Then do a full backup to iTunes, just follow the instructions below. Then select Restore iPhone/iPad and iTunes will install a fresh copy of the current iOS and will erase all your data and settings. After iTunes has installed a fresh copy of the iOS, it will ask you if you want to set your device as New or restore from Backup. Choose From NEW. After completion check to see if it all works ok now. You would also lose your photos and documents so it is important to back them up first as I mentioned above. I have done this procedure many times in the past and restored with no difficulties - it takes 30-50 minutes.

Join the club. I can't even reply to your post on my ipad, as the reply button doesn't work. In addition, I have a number of music streaming apps which no longer work in ios 9. Apparently, ios 9 is not backward compatible with whatever interface features these apps use. The shocker is that this is even true for apple's own browser! My advice is, in the future, do not upgrade to a new version of ios until ALL issues have been resolved. Just check the support community until all problems have been resolved.

Try a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything.

If that does not work then try what I recommended to Hot Coffee, it worked for her and you likely have a corrupted app or system as well.

This is the fault of the app developers who do not follow the development guidelines but hang in there, the developers usually come through with an update rather quickly when they see that their apps do not work.

If you are referring to Safari, mine works perfectly thus my recommendations above.

You would be waiting forever as ALL issues are never resolved, new issues are discovered every day on OS X, iOS, Android, Windows, etc. My W7 machine, now 4 years old, is still getting bug updates....

BTW, does your screen name refer to Opera like in Verdi or Opera like in software? Love Opera (Verdi) myself... Cheers...

The forced restart did not work, but I have an iMac and an iPhone which work fine (iPhone has ios 7 on it for the foreseeable future). So I will not reload my ipad.

Having worked as a software developer for 46 years before retiring, I am very familiar with issues resulting from new versions of os's, compilers and related software. Yes, it might be due to the developer of an app going outside the guidelines, but in my experience it is more likely the developer using a construct whose behavior has changed. Developers generally will get an explanation of what changes have been made to the interface before a new version of this kind of software is released. Many times, however, there are undocumented changes in behavior which cause this kind of issue. I have had personal experience with this from unix releases and c++ compiler releases. The fact that multiple apps have the same kind of problem streaming audio and/or video leaves me to believe that if different developers have been blind sided, it is unlikely they all went outside the guidelines.

Yes, you are absolutely right about this; I should have said ALL MAJOR issues. It is usually unwise to upgrade to a new version of an os when it is first released because this is when major problems, if any, will be unresolved. If you wait a while (and this depends on the degree of problems experienced with the release) and check the current experiences of the user community, you will have a better result

My screen name does refer to the Verdi version, not the browser of the same name. I have been a lover of opera and music (classical and jazz) for some 60 years. It has given me countless hours of joy and spiritual renewal. I subscribe to the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and other music venues. It's good to hear from a fellow music lover.

Don't see why you don't restore your iPad to New. According to your 2nd sentence on this post, the iPad is hardly working so why not restore it - you have nothing to lose but a little time. I have restored many times myself with no issues.

I see your point. I suspect that some apps are not working because the developers went outside the guidelines and I also suspect that others followed the guidelines but the iOS changed the game. Even Apple developers have had issues themselves. Apple used a networking routine for iOS 8 and Yosemite which proved problematic (DiscoveryD). It was written on C++, not one of Apple's favorites. With OS X 10.10.4 Apple reverted back to the routine used in iOS 7 and Mavericks (mDNSResponder) and did the same with iOS 9 resolving some year-long issues with Wi-Fi. You can check what routine you have in your iMac by using Activity Monitor.

The shocker is that this is even true for apple's own browser!

I am actually waiting myself to upgrade to El Capitan until 10.11.01 comes out even though by most accounts, 10.11 is working well.

A few years ago the Houston Grand Opera did a production of Tristan and Isolde, long as you know. Went directly after work, early curtain as you can imagine, enjoyed the first act, left at first intermission for an Italian restaurant close by, and returned just in time for the 3rd act - the best part of Tristan and the pinnacle of music IMO. Wagner has not spoken to me since…
