IOS 9.0.2 - Poor battery life on iPhone 6

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone else has been experiencing problems with IOS 9.0.2 and poor battery life? I have an iPhone 6 and since updating my battery life has decreased dramatically. Sometimes losing 25% in an hour even when the phone is in standby and not being used. I like to think i am quite clued up with Apple technologies and I have always been a fan of preserving battery life. Although appreciated, please don't comment with the usual extending battery life tips as I already use them all.

I hope I am not the only one suffering with this problem, has anyone discovered a cause or a fix?

Thanks!

iPhone 6, iOS 9.0.2

iPhone 6 Battery Issues After Software Upgrade

Apple, after updating the software on my iPhone 6 my Battery began having issues with slow charging, iPhone dropping dead with 80% Battery.

This issue has made me aware of at least two serious personal safety issues:

  1. When calling to check on my granddaughter, with 80% Battery, iPhone dropped dead. This Battery issue seriously jepordizes the safety of my children and grandchildren, when making calls regarding their whereabouts, or safety.
  2. As a Federal Licensed Communications Tech, if my iPhone drops dead with 80% charge, or takes several hours to charge, responding to “Public Safety” is also a very serious issue.
  3. This problem for Business Calls is also unacceptable.

We hope this was not a planned software change to escape any Battery Recalls, because it dangerously jepordizes Public Safety and that of our loved ones. I’m not sure the use of your iPhone 6 can be trusted for the above reasons.

Note: My wife, who never upgrades her iPhone 6 software, has no Battery issues.

I updated to 9.1 yesterday (11/2/15). Didn't have a problem with battery life until last night. Overnight while I was sleeping (8 hours) and while phone was also "sleeping" but still on, my battery life went from 74% to 14% this morning. Tried to contact Apple. I know this has something to do with the new download, as this has not happened in the past. So now what?

I'm experiencing the same. The same night I upgraded to iOS 9.1, I could watch the battery drain at an insane rate; Something like 15%+ per hour. The phone is completely dead within 8 hours from a full charge. I was on iOS 9.0.x (I don't remember which), and was not having any problems, my iPhone 6 Plus would last me 1.5 to 2 Full Days of moderate use, which was reasonable. This is complete unacceptable, but from past experience Apple Support is laughable at best. Many others are reporting the same experience since the "upgrade": Iphone 5s fast battery drain with ios 9.1; Unfortunately we will continue to get the "Restart the device", or "Shut down every app" or "Don't use bluetooth" nonsense for a few weeks until someone realizes there really is an issue and properly debugs it.

I have the same problems since i upgraded to ios 9.1. my friends told me may be I have updated the Facebook apps, that will drain the battery usage.

I have so frustrated that even I charged my phone, the battery increase only little bit. If I use my car usb charger some time it will reduce the battery percentage even charging.

Please help.

I have the same experience! I updated to 9.0 with no problems--even experienced improved battery life. With 9.1 my battery dies on standby and I have to recharge several times a day. I've spoken with 7 different Apple support people and been to the Genius Bar 3 times this week and it still isn't fixed. If anyone finds the solution, please share. This is intolerable and not the excellence I've come to experience and expect from Apple products.

I am considering that, just don't want to. I use to tout apples battery life, no more. Ive reset the phone and it works for a little while. But what works best is turning off cellular data. I hate that even more because why have an "I" phone if you dont use the I. Didn't use my phone at all yesterday, it was in sleep mode in my purse. Whipped it out a few moments ago its completly dead. Guest who forgot to switch off Cellular Data....this girl. Apple needs to find and fix the issue, or roll our updates back to the one that worked:(

It is definitely a glitch with the setup of iOS 9--mine occurred when I wirelessly updated to 9.1. I had no battery issues with the 9.0 update, but the day I took the 9.1 my battery died quickly. I recharged and it died overnight. I didn't change my use of the phone, but even on standby, it would die in about 5 hours. My phone is 13 months from new and I don't have AppleCare. I called support twice and they did usual troubleshooting, including a phone reset, but no improvement in battery life. Since Saturday I've gone to the Genius Bar 4 times. One Genius Bar guy tried to tell me that although my battery life was at 95% I should expect a decrease in time the battery stays charged and plan to stay plugged in or buy a charging case. I couldn't accept that it was a battery or age problem because it was a night/day difference from when I took the update, so I kept going back. Yesterday, on my 4th visit in 6 days, I got a new phone. It is definitely a glitch, not a battery life problem. My advice is to keep talking to support patiently until you get satisfaction.

Yes! I downloaded the latest software and updated both my iPad and iPhone 6S and it is a disaster. I have used every idea to save battery life such as turning off app refresh, brightening, etc., to no avail. The phone bleeds battery life like there's no tomorrow. It is ridiculous. There has to be something to fix this. My phone was able to last double the amount of time that it does now and the same with my iPad. All I'm ever doing is recharging both of them because they drain after you use them for like an hour. Nothing changed except the fact that I downloaded the latest software, I guess 9.1. The phone went from fine and the iPad to bleeding battery life the next day. It's obvious it's the software.

Do you have Wi-Fi calling turned on? Are you on AT&T?

Heres a link to a video that I shot showing the impact of WiFi Calling on my phone. You can see that the act of triggering WiFi Calling pegs the CPU at 50% and in the minute that the feature is active, the battery drops 2% from 89% to 87%. There is another thread that deals with carrier settings, but it's for a European carrier and this is happening to me on AT&T.

I turned Wi-Fi calling off and battery life is back to normal now.
