What happened to my scanner El Capitan?

Thanks Apple! After I upgraded to El Capitan I went to use my scanner and behold I can't see it anymore. I have an Epson perfection 2450 Photo scanner which I use for scanning and faxing. So at the present I no longer have a scanner or a fax, thanks Apple! I went to the Epson website to re-install the driver, that didn't work. Then I removed it from Printers and scanners in System Preferences and tried to add it but now my network does't even see it anymore. Does anyone else have this problem?

It really annoys me that OS providers including Apple, will put out new OS versions and then we, as cutomers, have to do the unofficial Beta testing for them? Surely if they know what they are going to change, even if for very good reasons, how is it that vendors of regular apps including ones from the Apple app store do not get the chance to get updates ready for the main release. Some small vendors might be bit slow but companies like Epson and HP etc are not small. As it is I have had 5 apps that stopped working with El Capitan and only the Epson one has been resolved so far. 😠

Installed the 10.11.2 El Capitan update but LiDE 200 CanoScan and MP Navigator EX still do not work.

Reset TWAIN device with Image Capture App and rebooted

Confirmed CanoScan is visible in System Preferences -Printer & Scanners

Scanned multiple documents with Image Capture successfully.

Then

Opened MP Navigator EX - first scan got the message "Device assigned to Image Capture do I want to work with TWAIN" click YES

Scanner then hung with the window "SCANNING, do not open the document cover" frozen - left it this way for 30 minutes, no change, no scan.

Unplugged the USB cable - up pops the error message "Cannot communicate with scanner ... scanner driver will be closed 155.0.0

Re-plugged the USB and scanned one page, hung on 2nd page, un-re plugged USB, scanned 2nd page of document

Back to Image Capture - scanner not visible

Reset TWAIN devices and up pops the scanner

IN Summary

Only way to scan with MP Navigator is to unplug the scanner after every page is scanned - essentially useless

OSX will access scanner from EITHER Image Capture OR MP Navigator, NOT BOTH - essentially useless

To switch between using scanner with MP Navigator & Image Capture you have to reset TWAIN devices AND re-power the scanner

APPLE - you really screwed this one up royally - please fix it.

Would be nice to know what the 'expert' did to resolve your Canon issue to make it work with MP Navigator EX again.

I got this response from Canon technical support.

I have an Epson 2450 Photo as well, mine is connected to the computer by USB and seems to work with Image Capture.

However a more sophisticated application that I prefer to use, SilverFast 8, will not recognize the scanner. The scanner appears

in the scanner menu but the program says tells me that there is a problem starting my scanner and that I should be sure that my drivers

are installed correctly. I have contacted SilverFast and have had no response. I bought Silver Fast 8 after an earlier OS change and

this scanner wasn't being recognized. I'm guessing the problem lies with silver fast but I'll take any advice.

Bought new LiDE 220 from Canon - 20% off loyalty discount since LiDE 200 and MP Navigatir no longer supported On OSX 10.11.

Came with Windows CD and no installations instructions for OSX. Found drivers and software on Canon.ca website. No guidance on what to download. Eventually got scanner to work with IJ Scanner but scanner buttons inoperative.

SPent over an hour talking to Canon customer support. Deleted and reinstalled all drivers & software. Reset TWAIN devices with image capture. Rebooted, reset - tried everything Canon CS could think of - he knew or had reports scanner buttons were inoperable so was essentially using me and my iMac to troubleshoot.

GAve up. Nothing could make scanner buttons work. Plus, after an overnight pause, next day scanner wouldn't work - error message no connection. Had to reboot as simple un-plug re-plug of USB did nothing.

SHipping scanner back back to Canon.

I Really think Apple screwed this up. So many different scanners dead with 10.11. Canon, HP, Epson. i hope 10.11.3 release will return things to a stable state.

IMAGE CAPTURE IS THE SOLUTION

I went through the same process talking with Epson support for about 30 minutes, deleting all drivers and reinstalling them but no luck with El Capitan.

I have ALWAYS used the "Epson Scan" app and did not realize there was such a thing as "Image Capture". I tried it out and it did all the things that the Scan app does so that will be my scanning tool from now on.

BTW, The new Epson driver works fine on my 6 month old laptop which is still Yosemite.

My Epson 2450 works with image capture on my IMac. My problem is the software program "SilverFast8*" is not supported so is temporarily, I hope, out of service. SilverFast has written that they are working on a solution along with Apple and/or Epson. This is a German software developer and they have been very helpful every time I have had an issue, usually because of OSX upgrades. I bought it originally because of an Apple upgrade that left this scanner out in the cold. It wasn't all that expensive either. Maybe $79? I don't recall now. Upgrades to work with new OSX have always been free.

Hi,

Simple solution, Open printer and scanners in Settings - select scanner you should see your connected device there (mine is connected via airplay/wireless) select open scanner and from there you can scan and edit and save as usual using mac software instead of Epson software. Its a long road to open scanner than just opening an app however it works flawlessly.
