Google Search not working from address bar in Safari

Hi,

Since I updated to El Capitan I am no longer able to run Google search from the URL bar on Safari. Bing and the others work fine.

Notice that when I type "google analytics for apps" the following URL is generated:

https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=google+analytics+for+apps&i e=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

But nothing happens, the loading does not proceed. In Networks -> DNS I have not manually added any DNS Servers and Search Domains but some defaults are added (128. etc.).

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I have exactly the same issue here. Working fine up to yesterday. Today I just upgraded to 10.11.3, and the problem with Safari started. Same symptoms and I tried everything (empty caches, disable all extensions, safe mode, etc.) Nothing works. Only difference in my setup is the El Capitan upgrade...

I hope I can get a fix really soon now, this is a major disruption for doing any serious work with Safari...

In addition to the problem of 'not being able to type into the address area', I found that Safari crashes completely if I try to go into full screen mode at this time.

Changing search engine to Yahoo resolves both issues but also, as 'honoramongstthieves' suggests above, I found that whilst retaining Google as my search engine, setting

Safari>Preferences>Searchdisable 'Include search engine suggestions'.

has fixed both problems for me.

The latest webkit update must have caused more issues with this problem as the thread today has become very active. While the temporary fix of disabling search features works for this element of the problem, it does nothing to resolve other issues such as https sites not loading, youtube video embeds not appearing. Those new to this thread might try using their google accounts to see if they are encountering the same issue and report back?

Apple need to address and resolve these issues very quickly as there are some of us who use our browsers intensively for work, and it has become a real issue.

Disabling "Include Safari Suggestions" not only fixed the issue, but enables - guess what - Safari Suggestions. So ticking it off, effectively turns it on!

Safari has completely got its knickers in a twist and enabling this feature causes the problem where the search just stops working. I'm using Google and also disabled preload (just a personal preference).

I'll dig into some searchs to see if I can find where these settings are stored in the system.
