Intermittent freezing/typing lag with El Capitan

Experiencing intermittent freezing (typing lag) since upgrading to El Capitan on my Early 2008 15" Macbook Pro. Regardless of application - while typing, the cursor will freeze and withhold characters and then pickup the typing again. Difficult to log into sights requiring passwords because it will freeze while typing a password. It actually has frozen several times while typing into this forum causing me to retype words as I go. I saw something about resetting the SMC on another forum and so I tried that - fixed the keyboard light issue I had been experiencing - but freezing/lagging continues. Any suggestions?

Macbook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.5.7), 2.6 ghz - Purchased May 2008

Some additional info...

I opened up the Console in another window, and selected the Diagnostic and Usage Messages log. I then opened up the Notepad and started typing random text. After every delay and keypresses lost that I experienced, the following messages would be displayed in the Diagnostic and Usage Messages window once the delay ceased.

11/22/15 5:53:02.328 PM hidd[109]: MT gesture parser logged double click timings

As a test, I turned off all trackpad gestures in system preferences. No change, delays are still often and the above messages immediately follow.

I have this problem on Mac purchased late 2002. After many Support calls over a period of 2 weeks I have

re installed El Capitan,

tried a new wireless keyboard,

wiped the disc,

re installed El Capitan and put back data manually so not to copy preferences

The problem is intermittent. The Mac world OK for 3 days after the OS reinstall but than the problem re occurred.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I have the wireless apple keyboard and i was reading the post because i was having the same issue. My macbook keyboard was working well, only the wireless one was lagging. So I did a simple step: bluetooth icon on the upper right corner, selected the keyboard and turned it off. Then i've reconnected it again and bamm! it works like a charm now!

Hope this helps!

This problem has been happening to me as well. Brand new mac, bought 3 days ago, 2015 model. And has been happening only on iMessage.

This solution has worked for me:

Problem resolved by turning off handover

Naturally this means the handoff feature will be disabled but at least the lagging keyboard problem is solved.

Also having issues with the curser, mainly in Apple Mail, where the curser changes to an arrow with a gray box when it should be a text cursor. Clicking on text won't change the curser back unless I click in the subject line. Sometimes it becomes the hand grabber icon. Very annoying; very buggy. (PowerMacPro Mid 2015, OS 10.11.1, Mail 9.1 3096.5). This isn't a real screenshot as that won't show the curser, but I approximated it in Photoshop:

I tried disabling Hand Off, tried disconnecting from Magic trackpad and keyboard, tried removing batteries from trackpad and keyboard. None of it worked for me. The strangest thing is that I've only ever seen this keyboard freeze issue on Messages. All other apps I use on this MBP work as expected in terms of keyboard responsiveness.

I also tried removing ~/Library/Messages completely .. that only made all the chat history disappear, but when typing a new message, the keyboard lag issues was still there.

I might try to do a clean install of El Capitan and try that.

i decided to do a clean install of El Capitan. I have a Late 2013 MBP with 16 GB.

After the clean install, the keyboard lagging issue did finally go away. It's been a few hours, and I've been using Messages for over an hour total time. So far, it seems the issue is not there anymore. If it comes back, i might just decide to do a clean install of Yosemite.

Hello Everybody,
in January I upgraded from 10.6.9 to 10.11 with clean install on MBP early 2008 15 " 2.6 / 7200 6Gb RAM fusion drive Crucial.
In terms of processor I felt great benefits but appeared this annoying problem of freezing few seconds trackpad exactly as described here.
I run around all the tips that I found online..
I also updated the fimware monitor Nvidia..Login..Cache.. but the problem persists,
I thought it was a limit of Ram but also the newer models accuse this problem.
Do you believe that I have to go back to the Old Great Snow Leopard?
Thanks for any further suggestion!

None of this has worked from me Using a 2009 27" iMac, and 2011 MBA only in messages does this happen i get the beachball/pinwheel. I have reinstalled 10.11.3 several times wit the same issue.

It seems like a buffer or something for messages. i Have the Same set up on a 21.5in 2013 iMac with no issues at all. not sure whats going on.
