Disable Apple News App?

Does anyone know how I can disable the Apple news app in iOS 9? I see it's an apple app so I can't remove it. I would setle for disabling it so I'm not getting the feeds supplied to my front page with Siri and nearby suggestions. ThankS.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.0.2

Do you mean the Today Widget?

1. Swipe left to the Today Widgets interface

2. Scroll to the bottom of the page

3. Click on "Edit"

4. Remove "News" from the widgets list

5. Done and save

Thank you for your feedback Kilgore-Trout. The Spotlight fix is working, whereas the mute option did not. Our devices are used strictly for business purposes, and the incoming feed sources were both distracting and upsetting to some employees. Tech and science are the core focus of our business, and the company policy dictates the iPhone devices be used within this scope. We could not accomplish this with the native news program active on the devices.

Then have employees use the Favorites tab rather the For You tab. The news app is a curated News aggregator, at least as far as the For You section is concerned. It is quite explicitly promoted that way. But given the nature of your earlier statements, you have to forgive me if I find the comment about this being "distracting and upsetting to some employees" to be a bit disingenuous. At any rate, there are numerous news apps in the App Store. I'm sure you can find one that meets your criteria.

Disabling the spotlight suggestions worked for me, I was getting really sick of news agencies that promote the biggest bunch of liberal bias being pushed in my face every time I open my phone. I have a large family I pay for seven iPhones monthly, it feels like you're trying to brainwash my children. I don't remember having any political feelings towards the android phones we have had in the past. The kids begged me for these iphones, I hate thinking my children have propaganda fliers in their hands. Please stick to the tech business and let your customers decide on which way they want to swing politically

Your children are still going to be able to access news from sources with biases you may not agree with even if you disable the News app.

And that's good for them. Anyone who reads only news they agree with is going to have a limited view of the world. There is great value in understanding the opposite point of view even if you don't share it.

One of the problems with all these curated news apps/services is that people start living in an echo chamber. The world is not limited to "liberal" or "conservative", even if one makes the faulty assumption that everyone who defines themselves by one label believes exactly the same thing as everyone else who uses the same label. Failure to critically evaluate a wide variety of sources of information (and the more you agree with it, the more critically you need to consider it), contributes to the current highly polarized political climate in the U.S. Lots of basically good people think lots of other basically good people are evil because they are "liberal" (or "conservative"). It makes me very sad.

</end polemic> 🙂

JJust upgraded to iOS 10

have been a regular user of Apples News app, but now the look and feel are too much like USA Today.

you can't choose your subscriptions- even if you delete all the subscribed content, apple still has news articles I don't want and you can't alter the layout or look and feel.

i Just downloaded Newsify - looks and feels like the iOS 9 version of news - and you only get what you subscribe to!

If those asking this question are well-informed enough to recognize the bias, the issue isn't a lack of understanding. Please don't dismiss the question simply because you disagree with the motives. Consuming curated content from biased media outlets doesn't make a person well-informed.

I did not dismiss anyone's questions. I simply expressed my disagreement with some of their statements.
