iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

Same issue here! My ipad 2 (3G) was on firmware 4.3.3, my mother never updated it and gave it to me when things stopped working. I tried to update to iOS 9.1 through iTunes (latest) and got that error 9 on my face. Ipad got stucked on recovery mode. I managed to use Reiboot so I can at least use it with the old 4.3.3 iOS.

I have called on the applecare but since the iPad was bought on 2011 the guy said he couldn't help me, although he hinted me several times to look on the apple website for support because "the answer is there".

I have two thinngs to say: First: this bug gotta be fixed soon! Apple can't expect us to just throw our devices away because it doesn't upgrade anymore.

Second: The enigmatic creepy guy from apple on the telephone surely knew what was going on but refused to give me further instructions or explanations. He was polite at least, but completly useless, hope apple fix the costumer support too along with the upgrade bug.

I feel the same way about the guy at Apple Care.

This issue has nothing with the purchased year as long as it iPad2 or after.

For example, if iOS on a iPad2 had been updated regularly, then there wouldn't be any problem down the road.

That is, iPad2 CAN be updated. Hardware is not a problem.

But, for iPads that had stayed in iOS 4.3.3 or 4.3.5 for any reason (for example, for some people not familiar with computers), updating to iOS 9.0 or 9.1 is not possible.

This means that the issue is about the software (whether it is iOS or iTunes).

So, we all think that it is APPLE who should resolve this issue.

You can still use the old iPads using Reiboot with limited capability.

I am sorry that all of you are experiensing this issue. But, iOS 9 is Extreamely laggy on an iPad 2. I used to have an iPad 2 on iOS 9 (updated from iOS 8), but it was so slow that I just bought another iPad 2 running iOS 4.3 and can't be happier. I also highly recommend doing research before trying to update a 4.5 year old device to iOS 9. Just warning you and all the others trying to update.
