iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

It's not possible to move from 4.3.3(4 or 5) to 9.02.

To update to 9.0.2, first you have to update to 4.3.5 after this to 5.0 or 5.1.1. When 5.1.1 is ready go to the ipad settings -> general -> software update.

Then apple will invite to update to 8.0 after update 8.0 you will able to update to 9 ios.

The problems is that itune doesn't work with old version of ios and if you try to update with itune to ios 5.0 you will se error 3002 or 3xxx.

Here show how can update to 4.3.X to 5.1.1

I feel the same way about the guy at Apple Care.

This issue has nothing with the purchased year as long as it iPad2 or after.

For example, if iOS on a iPad2 had been updated regularly, then there wouldn't be any problem down the road.

That is, iPad2 CAN be updated. Hardware is not a problem.

But, for iPads that had stayed in iOS 4.3.3 or 4.3.5 for any reason (for example, for some people not familiar with computers), updating to iOS 9.0 or 9.1 is not possible.

This means that the issue is about the software (whether it is iOS or iTunes).

So, we all think that it is APPLE who should resolve this issue.

You can still use the old iPads using Reiboot with limited capability.

I am sorry that all of you are experiensing this issue. But, iOS 9 is Extreamely laggy on an iPad 2. I used to have an iPad 2 on iOS 9 (updated from iOS 8), but it was so slow that I just bought another iPad 2 running iOS 4.3 and can't be happier. I also highly recommend doing research before trying to update a 4.5 year old device to iOS 9. Just warning you and all the others trying to update.

OK, in English - I apologised for probably a bad English to German translation - blame Google!

I have tried emailing a customer service email with all this information and a plea to deliver a better solution other than Jailbreak.

I suggested they perhaps allow a specific iOS 5 or 6 update to complete as a stepping stone to iOS9.

We could do this using iTunes with the correct IPSW restore file, using shift Update in iTunes.

Don't bother trying this now as Apple reject this as an unsupported upgrade - hence why people are suggetsing Jailbreaking.

We shall see!

I have no experience of Jailbreaking and don't particularly want to, but I assume that you can select whichever update you want.

I guess Jailbreak is a hacked iOS??? Don't even care...........

Apparently the iReboot software (Registered/paid for version) allows you to update later and effectively un-Jailbreak with the latest iOS.

They wrote that they contacted Apple regarding this problem, but Apple did not answer yet.

JUst a quick thought to help you here, you have most likely downloaded the wrong beta version for your iPad.

Check out other answers in the thread to help with this, there are two versions of iPad2 and you need to choose the correct ipsw file.

Others may be able to help a little more, sorry I'm in bed on my iPhone. TMI.

I think I know what I'm doing, but just to make sure:

I have iPad 2 wilf only.

I tried two iPad 2 firmwares, iPad2,1_9.3_13E5181d_Restore.ipsw and iPad2,4_9.3_13E5181d_Restore.ipsw.

Here I'm talking about 9.3. beta 1 version.

When I tried two versions, then I got two different error messages.

When I tried the right one (iPad2,1), I got ""The iPad could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."

When I tried the wrong one (iPad2,4), then "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible."

What the heck! I tried other two (iPad2,2 and iPad2,3) which is not meant for iPad 2 wifi only. Then, I have

"The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.".

This made me think that the version iPad2,1 must be the right one for me. But, it doesn't work for my iPad.

When I tried all above, I pressed option (or alt) + 'Restore' and chose a file that I downloaded.

Now, one thing that I didn't do is to try 9.3. beta 2 version which I couldn't find at reddit.
I could try at Apple developer's site, but I'm tired by now.

Anyway, thank for your concern.

I knew I wouldn't get a reply from him, but believe it or not, I sent a long e-maill to Tim Cook. That tells you how eager I was to resolve this issue.

Now, I'm going to set this iPad for my daughter since I bought a replacement for my father-in-law who used to own this iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3.

One problem solved, I can sleep better now.

I have experienced this problem for months, at beginning, my iPad2 failed to upgrade from iOS8.?, then it totally failed to boot up. It always failed in the phase of "Doing Certification with Apple" (translated) .

I did all the suggestions on Apple's official help document. For example, to change usb cables, upgrade iTunes, upgrade OS of MacBook Pro,...none of them works. And eventually, in iTunes 12.4.3.1 (the most updated version now), it seems that there is no option to install local IPSW files any more.

When ios8 was out in Nov 4 2014 i got a ipad mini 1st gen and upgraded from 7.1.1 to 8.1 and try restoring by download firmware online and holding to shift when you press "Check For Updates".

There is a way to update to iOS 6 which is the best iOS for the iPd 2(search the web/youtube) although I can't talk about it since it goes against the Apple Support Communities rules

I sort it out by using ReiBoot to exit recovery mode and using it still without updating.

The problem is already explained several times:

To upgrade to iOS9 the existing iOS should be 5. Older will not be updated.

Being an educational institution I would assume you have some sort of maintenance and support agreement through the educational store. Have you contacted Apple directly to see what they can do?
