Google chrome not working with El Capitan

I recently downloaded and installed El Capitan and since doing so have been unable to open Google chrome. Safari works just fine (however I dislike it). Attached is what comes up when I try to open Google Chrome. Please help!!

I noticed that /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Google/ was created with the wrong permissions in my machine - it was created as root:staff, instead of <user>:staff, which was preventing Chrome from populating the directory on startup.

I changed ownership to my user and then Chrome was able to start up:

sudo chown -R <user>:staff /Users/<user>/Library/Application\ Support/Google

-R performs the command recursively, but if you had previously emptied the directory, it may not be necessary.

I have Chrome on both my Mac Pro tower and Macbook Pro (2008) laptop. Both running El Capitan. Chrome works fine on the tower, and it was working fine on my laptop until a couple of days ago. Now it seems to be constantly trying to reload the pages causing the pages to load in chunks from bottom to top whenever I try to scroll. I notice the loading icon in the tab flickers as it's trying to load. Not sure what's changed. Safari works fine on the laptop. I've tried removing Chrome and reinstalling it. Didn't help.

Sorry for my lack of technical description of the problem.

I had a problem similar to what is being described in the latter portion of this thread (more detail after the link). This discussion on the Google forums suggested turning off hardware acceleration and it solved my issue:

I have Google Chrome running on El Capitan on my primary Macbook Pro as well as on a Parallels El Capitan VM on the same machine. Chrome stopped working properly a couple of weeks ago. It would open, but wouldn't display pages properly, or would flicker like it was in a constant refresh loop, but still without any page content. Completed deleted it and all of it's pref files and reinstalled and it it worked for an hour, then the problem started happening again. The only thing that resolved the problem was going into Chrome (advanced) settings and turning off hardware acceleration.

Hope it helps others.
