Wake on Excessive Wake drains battery on sleep

Ive been having this problem where my computer drains to 0% battery overnight when in sleep. When I'm connected to my router/wifi, the computer never sleeps, wakes up multiple times a minute, and drains all battery. See a sample below:

Turns out, a bunch of people in this forum have had this problem. I've tried everything suggested. Turning off Wifi before sleep WORKS so i figured it was a problem with the computer. But..it seems that me and a few other people have come to this conclusion: Its a problem only with certain routers.

I tested to see if this is my router by leaving my Wifi ON, and unplugging my router. It sleeps fine with Wifi ON and router OFF. So its the connection between the router and the computer that is doing this.

its a Time Warner Router.

Im posting this so Apple is aware of the issue. Has anyone found a fix?

I thought perhaps the issue had been resolved, and it did seem that the excessive waking had ceased on my home network. But, as soon as I took my laptop into the vicinity of my corporate network (which pops up a dialogue box in the OS and asks for a login), the waking started again. I opened the laptop and it had drained 15% battery in a couple of hours, the OS was awake, and the login dialogue was displayed.

I really hoped it had been sorted, but it definitely hasn't. I wonder if this will now trigger the excessive waking once I go back to my home network.

Yes tmdhvn, I have installed the El Capitan 10.1.1 update. I then fired up wifi, surfed the web, and put my MB Pro sleep for 14 hours starting with 99% battery power. This morning the battery power was at 87%. I was hopeful that the problem had been somewhat remedied, but then I discovered tmdhvn's follow-up post describing how the excessive wake problem resurfaced when interacting with additional wifi networks. Maybe this offers a clue as to what the root of the problem is?

I would say that there are plenty of clues as to what the cause of the problem is (as you know, there are several threads with similar issues).

To report back, my computer still woke up overnight but only once every two hours, but now with the wake reason, "RTC (Alarm)". Only 2 % of the battery was drained overnight. I am keeping my fingers crossed for now.

So the update kind of fixed it. It woke up once during the night due to TCP timeout. No wake on excessive wake.

I have not tested this fully. Only on my home router. I have not changed networks yet so until I do that im keeping my fingers crossed.

I think RTC alarm is normal:

Wake reason: RTC (Alarm)

After a quick search I found the Knowledge Base Article that describes exactly my problem: About Wake on Demand

The reason for this odd behaviour is the Bonjour Sleep Proxy that is used to periodically advertise services of the machine to the network. While I had this turned off in 10.6, is was set to on automatically when I upgraded to 10.7. To shorten the article, the solution is to disable “Wake on Network Access” in the Energy Saving options

I've encountered the same issue on my Macbook Pro Retina 2015.

I've tried many suggestions before, none of them worked.

But...

After updating El Capitan and remove SoftRaid.kext in /library/extension, my macbook doesn't wake when I close the lid even I leave the wi-fi turn on! (im not sure which one solve the issue)

Hope this helps.

That's great news! It would be interesting to see what happens if you any of you guys go into range of a network that requires a user/pass login (pretty sure my work network is WPA2 Enterprise). That seems to be what triggered it again for me, after things being back to normal for a while after the update.

Weird that removing SoftRAID seems to help. Why is there even a RAID extension on here? (Edit: just checked in System Information and it says that SoftRAID isn't loaded?)
