That's an interesting comment. To this point I have found NO ONE that can run iMovie v9 on El Capitan. To me that means everyone has this problem. And in Apple's sales pitch on iMovie 10 they say the conversion of Projects and Events will not destroy the originals so that the iMovie v9 can still be used on the same computer.

Yes, it's true. I have both (iMovie 9 and 10) in my computer.

Just to clarify, are you able to run iMovie v9 iin El Capitan?

I just bought a new iMac 4k 21,5 inch.

I reinstalled iMovie 9, but the same problem here. The thumbnail do show up, but when I play them I only here audio and no video is shown.

Same thing happens with photo's, which I import from iPhoto. I can select thumbnails, but they won't show in the movie.

This is definitely a problem. You have only 2 choices; 1) Backgrade to an earlier OS, 2) Start using iMovie v10.

It IS possible to actually have Chapters in iMovie in the Project of what you are doing!

It's just a case of:

• Click “Add Chapter Marker”.

If you are going to be using iDVD to make your video better, they will / can appear on iDVD depending on how you desing your project.

As far as I know, iMovie HD & iMovie have always had the Chapter thing from day one! I just think that probably people are looking in the wrong places like among the Menu Options than just clicking on the Project itself.

It also may be under Preferences with "Show Advanced Tools" for those who may be experiencing problems.

To my knowledge, drag any images from iPhoto, Photos, etc into a Folder.

Then, drag the image FROM THE FOLDER into iMovie. Your image should appear in iMovie.

I do not know about GIF images, but JPG, JPEG, PNG, all work for me, so they should for you as well!

ALl users note that iMovie 9.09 is NOT compatible with El Capitan. There are a number of widely reported issues. For example, stills that the user has created for say text or a screeshot or picture etc, will not play (they play as back screen). Any back catalogue of videos with will require major surgery.

I have spent a lot of time discussing with senior Apple Support Advisors and they inform me that it is not compatible. So sad that Apple thinks this is a fair way to treat its loyal customers who have invested thousands of pounds in hardware and software to create videos. Now that THEY KNOW why don't they either fix the bugs or inform customers of these known issues.

Hi, I just eh upgraded to El Capitan, opened iMovie 9.0.9 and found my stills don't show up while playing. They are shown in the project though. The rest seems ok, I can also add markers.
