imovie 10.1 wrapping timeline?
Any idea if this update has disabled it? As I can't go to (view - wrapping timeline) to select it and can't see an option anywhere else for it.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), Retina 27" 5k Imac

"A single timeline is actually the norm for video editors - you need plenty of vertical space if you are more complicated editing such as picture in picture and multiple audio tracks."
You may be right that Apple did this just to turn iMovie into a "normal" video editor.
I however have the suspicion that removing the wrapping timeline altogether was a "quick" solution to not being able to adjust the speed of a clip with the timeline wrapping enabled.
Please remember that it wasn't obligatory to enable the wrapping timeline before. It was a user option. This option has now been removed and imho it is rarely a good idea in general to remove a feature from any application as this lengthening thread from mostly disappointed users (with your good self as an obvious exception) would seem to indicate.
I agree with one or two people who have said above that Apple won't take much notice of this thread or the complaints above removing the wrapping timeline. This attitude to users is a pity granted Apple make so much profit. You might even say that therein lies the problem. Vast profits mean you can do more or less what you please and need not take much notice of anyone.
i have made a facebook group to help showing apple that we'd like to have the wrapping timeline back. please join and share the group:

I am editing an hour long wedding video (my own) I just spent 15 minutes trying to find the time wrapping. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE ELIMINATED THIS . I am not editing twink videos from my ******* iPHONE. This has really got me ******. And suddenly the video is all pixelated instead of 1080. No, I am not planning on sharing in on my twink blog.
One option is to go back to using iMovie v9. In my case that version is in a folder in the Applications folder named "iMovie (previous version)".
But be aware that iMovie v9 is not compatible with OS 10.11 (El Capitan).
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to write.
Well, I had a look for "Applications previous versions". Unfortunately my previous version must have been not v9 but 10 point 0 something so Apple have hobbled the wrapping timeline feature in my case with complete success.
As I said and as I still think it isn't a great idea to remove features from applications. Had I known I would have not upgraded (or in my case perhaps 'downgraded') to iMovie 10.1
As a relative newby to the Apple world I can also see for myself that all those gargantuan profits do have a less desirable side-effect for end-users viz. that Apple don't have to worry as much as 'normal' companies do about criticism.
I agree with you, however, the updates were automatic and it forced me to upgrade it. Or perhaps it asked me say ok and did it without knowing it would remove one of the most important features. Right now all my projects are at a standstill, because, I find it soooooo tedious to go all along a horizontal line. I literally hate it at the moment.
I would strongly advise against setting the App Store to automatically install updates (except security updates). Notify and download yes, but I don't want anything major installed until I have reviewed what has been changed and have made an up to date backup clone on an external drive which would allow me to revert in case of problems. Its also a good idea not to update iMovie when in the middle of editing major projects.
My setting in System Preferences are:
Geoff.
Thanks so much for your advise. I will follow suite.
Thank you. This does help a little bit. I'm still not sure why they removed this feature. It's very difficult to use now.
I'm sure it's because it's all about the swipe now. Anyone using a desktop or laptop computer now is lame and not with the program. We're all supposed to edit films, search on our phones or tablets and have BIG pictures to look at and swipe swipe swipe.
Usually the choice is "OK" or "YES." LOL
My wife is very p********** off that wrapping the project timeline has disappeared. Our very old iMac has given up and cannot handle HD movies anymore so she has moved onto using my MacBook Pro. The version of iMovie on the MacBook is 10.1.2 and there is no timeline wrap. This typical Apple to remove something that was really useful to a lot of users, but they could not bothered to recode iMovie so that timeline wrap remained and included changing the speed of a clip. I am now going on to the feedback website and voice my opinion.
Regards
Schof

Yup. You nailed it.
"We're all supposed to edit films, search on our phones or tablets and have BIG pictures to look at and swipe swipe swipe." (above) is also true.
For those with a magic mouse it's a good enough fix, albeit a slight pain to use.
Thanks!
