Safety of MacPaw CleanMyMac

iMac 2009 vintage, running OSX 10.9.5.

Prior to the App Store, I purchased a utility program from Apple's Web site called CleanMyMac from MacPaw, which is out of Ukraine. It is a storage organizer and cleaner. I've used it with apparent success for about 3-4 years and am now on version 2.5, but notice it has not been offered on the App Store for some time.

Therefore, I ask if it is safe to continue using or if Apple decided it is malware.

Hello there!Allow me to clear up this misunderstanding:

> but notice it has not been offered on the App Store for some time.

Please note that the CleanMyMac application never was never available at the AppStore. Your purchase was made from Apple's website catalog which was before the AppStore. CleanMyMac application is only available on our website: http://macpaw.com/store/cleanmymac

>am now on version 2.5,

The latest application version available is 2.4 and we can see in the screen shot that your using 2.4, 2.5 doesn't exist.

>Therefore, I ask if it is safe to continue

The application CleanMyMac 2 is still working and is even compatible with latest version of OS X 10.11, El Captain. We continue to update CleanMyMac 2’s Safety Database and Knowledge Base.

>Apple decided it is malware.

Apple has never made a claim that our applications is a malware. Please be advised that CleanMyMac is not MalWare or a virus etc. We have never used any adware in our advertising etc. Furthermore, our products are featured in the Mac App Store. This means that they are reviewed and approved by Apple. On another note - we are a Registered Apple Developer, which means all our applications are signed and trusted to pass Apple’s Gatekeeper. This means a lot to us, and Apple always reserves the right to revoke the certificate in case of any malpractice.

If you still have any questions regarding our products - feel free to ask us directly via: support@macpaw.com and we'd be glad to answer for all your questions.

Regards,

MacPaw Support Team.

I am afraid the support team's post runs entirely contrary to general experience of senior contributors here. The chances of picking up malware are further exagerated by downloading this from CNet, Softonic and other doubtful sources.

It is NOT necessary to take on any of these cleaning apps ... and in the link given, read the comments by Thomas Reed, one of our most senior people.

CleanMyMac 2 Damaged My Mac!!!!!!!!!Help!!!!!!

Take note.

Thanks, seventy one.

Fortunately, for now at least, the CleanMyMac 2 has not trashed my iMac. Yesterday, after reviewing support community responses, I moved the app itself to Trash and emptied Trash. I've used Time Machine to back up my machine since I bought it in 2009 running Snow Leopard 10.6.5, I believe. Since then, I've updated only once to Mavericks and am running 10.9.5.

If you have additional advice for me to follow to "clean" this bad cleaning product from my machine, please feel free to reply.

Best regards.

Here is the report you suggested. Looks like I have 1 daemon and 3 agents still on my iMac from MacPaw.

Dec 27, 2015 2:55 AM in response to Old Operator

Fear I should be called 'Even Older Operator' after reading all this stuff on macpaw etc.

My iMac new July 2015 - is running slowly - frequent appearances of the spinning wheel. Have not knowingly bought, added or downloaded anything that claims to purify my mac.

Please ladies and gentlemen. Tell me - in plain english - what to do.

Thank you
