Searching in Contacts doesn't work after iOS 9.1 update

I confirm, it's fixed in iOS9.2b2 (I'm on beta 3 now), I don't know when 9.2 will become public.

I think you are kinda on the right track here. I currently have Contacts via Exchange and Google. I normally only keep Google checked for contacts. This means that the "Show All Contacts" is still displayed as I am not showing all contacts. If I select to Show All Contacts and then quit the Contacts app, it remembers that setting the next time I load the app and the search works without issue. As soon as I select to only show Exchange or Google, whenever the Contacts app is opened, the search issue persists. For some reason, if only one group is selected for displaying of contacts, the search thinks that no groups are selected until you either go to Groups and hit Done or you change what groups are being displayed.

I might just go to deleting all my personal contacts in Exchange (since they are all in Google anyways) and then leave it on Show All Contacts. That will also let me search the full Exchange directory as well.

This is a bug that should be fixed by Apple though.

What worked for me: Go to Contacts then Groups, select all of them, then hit Done.

Thanks so much. That was the only solution that worked. It is very odd. We have never had the cloud contacts on, we only use exchange contacts. I will now share with other iphone/exchange users in my company.

I had the same issue and spoke with Apple Support, we did a network reset and so far (1 hour later) the problem has gone away.

Click on Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. (this will remove all your wifi passwords, for more details search the apple support website)

I was reading through these messages, and the solution is pretty simple. The update basically removes the checks from all contacts.

You do not have to do a reset.

Solution: In the "Contacts" or "All Contacts" page, click on "Groups" (mostly top left of the window), and select "Show All Contacts". This should resolve the issue.

No Groups in contacts? If I select Contacts it's right there at the top of the screen, above the search box

The problem suddenly appeared, resetting the phone did nothing. Miraculously it disappeared when I tapped Groups, followed by Done.

It appears that the update to iOS v9.2 has corrected this issue. As soon as each of my devices were updated to 9.2, I no longer had this issue. The fix is even listed in the release notes for 9.2.

What did was, click on the phone icon at the bottom, then selected contacts. At the upper left hand side, I clicked on Groups. Then I clicked on "Show All Contacts". All of my contacts that were hidden, showed up. I hope this works for you.

You installed updates directly from phone or using iTunes?

I have 5 e-mail box, and contacts from e-mails will be very helpful for me, but it doesn't work.
