Canon MP620 can't scan after installing El Capitan (version 10.11.1)

After installing El Capitan a few days ago, my trusty Canon MP620 (not wireless) won't scan. It worked perfectly prior to instaling El Capitan. The printer works. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried:

resintalling the Canon
installed the El Capitan 10.11.1 update
rebooted several times
searched internet for solutions (came up with nothing)
checked Canon for updated drivers (nothing)

Screenshot of error message attached ("A required file is missing or corrupted, or settings are incorrect. Try the installation again)

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Unfortunately this did not help me. I used to have the option to "Open Scanner" but that option is no longer present even after updating the driver.

Thanks so much - you are brilliant. I tried to update the drivers through the Canon UK site but it wouldn't work, reporting an error. Now I can scan again!

This last one is what did it for me. The restart Mac step wasn't needed though.

Thanks for the extra tip. I did need to delete the printers from the library before running the update.

Also I am using MG5200 series printer scanner and this helped me out.
