Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

That is exactly what I did almost a week ago (by trial and error). When the splash screen kept appearing and the app would not load, I went to settings to deactivate it. But it still wouldn't work. I tried several resets etc, but then I don't know what went through my mind, I activated the option again in settings. And when I opened the Music App, Lo and Behold, it asked me if I wanted to join Apple Music, to which I chose NO. And till then, my Music App has worked like a charm.

Same for me logged out of my Apple ID rebooted the phone and logged back in. Apps updated, linkes in emails worked and Beats Radio appeared. Think I will wait a few days before activating my Apple Music subscription again. Next decision is if it is working now am I brave enough to move to iOS 9.2 when that comes out !!!

At lunch time today, without doing anything my IPad mini started working as normal. The last Apple advisor I talked to last Saturday called me tonight and said they've been working hard on the issue until today. 3 different factors were the cause. He left me his phone and email and advised to get in touch with him ISPs any sign of malfunction would ever occur. Fingers crossed, I won't update my IPhone from 8.4.1 just yet, but the IPad on 9.1 is ok. Nice meeting you all here... Better go now, I have catching up to do on magazine subscriptions to read and tons of Beats 1 show to listen to... Hooray!

It has been 48 hours since I've reverted to my old ID (I was using a new ID as a work around). I have a couple of scenarios that usually replicate the problem. Most of my issues seem to be fixed such as: downloading/updating apps in the app store, links in email, and password settings for app store no longer disappear. But my Apple Music still has issues. When I try to play some songs, it takes multiple times of me pressing play for it to actually play. If I sign back into the work around ID that I created it works fine. Also I noticed that if I swipe closed the Apple Music app and then re-open it, it will give me an error occurred screen. It won't let me use any features on Apple Music. I have to sign in and out of Apple Music for it to work again. That problem actually happens on my original ID and my new ID. I just have to never swipe close the Apple Music app. Which after dealing with all the other issues for so long, I am perfectly happy with. Other than that everything seems to be OK.

I should also mention I am on iOS 9.2 beta 4. I have worked with the Apple Store Geniuses. They replaced my phone and once they do that, they pretty much no longer want to deal with you and just keep telling you to call Apple Phone Support. I've also worked with them and they had me send some logs to work with an engineer, but they ended up replacing my Apple Watch then I pretty much no longer heard from anyone after that.

I honestly no longer care to work on this issue anymore. I have a new phone, a new watch, and a simple fix that seems to work when problems happen. I am OK with that for now.

This is extremely disappointing to hear. 48 hours out everything still looks normal on my end running 9.1. The only weird issue I noticed yesterday was that I couldn't purchase paid items on my phone - was able to download new free apps just fine, and no problem buying paid items on my laptop, just couldn't pay for stuff on the phone. I contacted support and they resolved the issue quickly, thankfully.

Really hoping this fix holds, though it sounds like the cracks are already showing. Now that the server issues went high-profile earlier this week hopefully this remains a priority for the iOS team.

Probably found a solution. My senior advisor and engineer who worked on the case told me that they have identified the issue and are still working to investigate what's actually happening. They said that there's really no solution to this; except wait for a newer software update. My advisor told me however that all the accounts reported are developer accounts. This doesn't matter if you actually enroll as developer. If you register a beta device to your Apple ID (officially or YouTube tutorials without UDID) your account automatically becomes a developer account. What I did was click on Join Apple Music (although I am actually enrolled) and then just follow everything. They charged me again but everything starts working normal. It's as if my iPhone's curse been taken away. All my App Store, Apple Music, and iCloud backup are now working.

UPDATE: Creating a new Apple ID and adding it to my Family Account has allowed all of the Apple Services that aren't working (Apple Music, App Store downloads, podcast downloads, Game Center) to begin working again. Such a relief!

The one caveat that i've noticed is that Apple Music will still, on occasion, suddenly start exhibiting the issue where music will pause repeatedly every few seconds until I reboot the iPhone and then it starts behaving again. I am a bit distraught to see this happening with the new account. It appears that some of the problem is somehow caring over to the new account. Again, it only appears that this is happening with Apple Music.

Other than that, it's been a great relief to be able to use all the various Apple Services again.

Hi there, I hope this helps. I also found that when I hit the 'Music' icon on my iPhone 6 all that happened was that the Apple Music screen loaded but nothing else. I did try the usual on/off routine, but then when I was in Settings > Music I clicked on the blue text 'Join Apple Music' and my music library appeared immediately. I don't pay for their streaming service, so I can't comment on that side of things, but I can now get to hear my music. Best wishes, Simon
