Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

The shame of all this is, I can stay on 9.0.2 as long as I need to, but when the day comes I need to replace one of my family's iPhones or iPads and the problem is not fixed, I might as well go to a Samsung or LG (if the choice is that or starting over with a new Apple ID).

I'm starting to feel the same way with OS X. As I work with Windows all day, there really isn't that much of a difference anymore and when it's time to replace my MacBook, I'm going to seriously look at Windows machines.

I hate that it's come to this, but it's almost like Apple just doesn't care anymore. Things no longer "just work."

So for the time being I've tried the workaround of creating a new Apple ID and using the family share feature. So far everything seems to be working fine. Though I'm trying to use Apple Music and its asking me to sign up. I'm already signed up using my other Apple ID and still have 2 months left on the 3 month free trial. ****** me off that I have to spend money now for something that should be free for another 2 months and hasn't worked goong on almost 3 weeks.

I've had my case escalated to a senior engineer through email and have been asked to call, but haven't yet because I'm already so ****** off that I'm prob gonna take it out on someone who doesn't deserve it. This is just ridiculous! I'm not sure what is so "special" about us that we are the only ones who have seemed to be infected or have our ID's jacked up?

OK so after reading this thread religiously to try and figure out how to fix this I finally stumbled upon success pretty much by accident. I got a new macbook from my employer and because my Apple Music was not working on my phone I figured I would try and sign in to iTunes and load up my library on my new laptop. After signing in to my Apple ID I noticed that like my phone, my library was showing up empty. The symptoms I was experiencing previously were as follows:

1. If I opened up apple music my library would be empty, or the app would freeze.

2. If I did some of the temp workarounds my library would maybe load but then within a short time all the music would show up as grayed out and would not sync with my account properly.

3. My iMac and Apple TV were working perfectly fine

4. I tried resetting my device, signing in / out of Apple Music and iCloud, turning off iCloud drive, etc

What pointed me in the right direction is that on iTunes on my new Macbook I went into settings and checked the box for iCloud music library and I got an error I could finally deal with. It said I had authorized too many devices for my account. I went to my account in iTunes and noticed that it said I had the max 5 authorized devices for iTunes purchases and 5 devices for iTunes in the Cloud. I then took the following actions:

1. Removed all authorized devices for iTunes in the Cloud and Computer Authoirzations

2. Signed out of Apple Music on my iPhone and turned off Apple Music and iCloud music library

3. Put the phone into airplane mode and rebooted (not sure if necessary)

4. After reboot, opened apple music, turned off airplane mode, and logged back in to my account

5. Went into settings and turned on iCloud Music Library

6. Reopened Apple music and got loading library

7. SUCCESS!

Everything has been working well for a few hours and any glitches I was experiencing before it stopped working completely have gone away. As an iOS developer, I just simply have used a whole bunch of different devices to access iTunes and hit the limit without realizing it which must have put some block / error on my Apple ID that only effected iOS and not Apple TV or iTunes. It's super annoying to me that Apple didn't code in clear error messages when you hit issues like this, which would probably save them plenty of time / energy.

I really hope this solves issues for others, because I know how frustrating this whole experience was for me. Good luck to all!

I had a problem also accessing my library on iphone 6s after installing 9.1. I synced to my Mac and then was prompted to sign in to itunes on my phone.

For some reason it took several tries to recognize the password but after finally accepting it my complete library came up and it works fine.

Sounds like there are some issues with 9.1

Same here - three devices, all greyed out so couldn't remove. I deauthorized all computers just to see what that would do but all the same issues are present when I try to get back into my ID on my phone.

Tom, some of us, myself included, have experienced periods of up to 48 hours where everything goes back to normal but then randomly goes out again, hope that your fix works for you indefinitely but keep a lookout for any changes. Let us know if maybe there's a step in your process or something that we might be missing.

Same here... all the iphones linked to the account are grayed out (it is showing my previous iphone linked - dunno why, and I cant even do anything about it since that phone is sold off, and I had sold it off after erasing all content, so why is it continuing to be linked...and why only that phone... I have had 5 and 5S previously too, those are not there). If this is the problem then don't know what to do about this.

Well, as expected Apple's service center here in Mumbai, India had no clue about this. I showed them the problem, these pages, and they looked visibly flustered. I am not sure why no one here has ever been to Apple store with this problem, but I guess not everyone really uses the phone to the extent I do (I have friends who have not updated apps, don't use music, and very less on email - even if they have the issue, they wouldn't know or care, and I reckon most in India buy iphone more for the snob value than the utility).

Anyway, I showed them these pages. I showed them the article by Chad. I also logged in with my Apple id onto a demo phone where everything worked perfectly.

Two days later, when they called me back again, they still had no answer.... except (and this after I created a mini ruckus) they agreed to REPLACE the phone. I am not sure I really want to do that ... they said it with a caveat : they are not sure if the new phone I get will have ios 9.01 or ios 9.1 - which now is a gamble for me. (And I don't want to go through the horror of backing up and reloading on a new handset).

In the meantime, I have been talking to Apple Support in the US too. The lady there is very nice and helpful and apologetic and all that - but in the end, no solution. She did make me go through the whole process of reloading ios 9.1 - which i did... and nearly lost my data (since my PC suddenly developed some virus or something ... because of which 'Restore iphone' was not working, and was creating a duplicate back up, and hence eating up my C drive).

She asked me to send a video recording of the exact problem that happens... which I have sent her... that was on Friday. So awaiting the next response from their engineering team.

Sad, Apple is taking so long to recognize this.

My frustration levels are going up. The entire randomness of this is awful. One moment it's all fine...the next everything breaks!

Another blind shot...

COULD THIS BE because I had TWO SEPARATE id's for App Store/Itunes and iCloud ???

App store id -> gmail

Icloud id -> iCloud.com

I now entered my original App store id (ie gmail one) into the iCloud....strangely it took it....

And it seems to be working ...though it's only 10 minutes into it... Keeping Fingers Crossed....

(Can others confirm this too please?)
