Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Hi All,

my problem is now resolved, but I do not know why.

I had this terrible Apple Music issue (always crashing), then my iPhone 4S on iOS9.1 froze one time at the Unlock-Screen (which I had never had before), after a reset it came up fine (I pressed the Home and Power button really long). Also Apple Music now works flawlessly (before that it always quite a few seconds after launching with a short black screen - and back to the home area).

Now, this is all gone! Magic?

Cheers,

Peter

I'm having the same problems in iOS 9.1 - links in the emails don’t work, Apple Music keeps freezing, Beats1 don’t work and can’t download apps from App Store). I also believe it's an Apple ID problem. When I logout from Apple ID, links in emails, for example, return to work. The first time I had these problems was in version 8.4.1. During iOS 9.0 I had no issues.

Hi Walter,

Thank you for your comments in trying to solve the problem. In response to your comment that this is an issue of having iOS 9.1, I would say that my newly BUY phone "6S" is coming with iOS 9.02 and the same I cannot open it... The main music screen is not changing for too long by now!

Best Regards

Thanks

Looks like we're waiting. Hope Apple learns a lesson from this, free upgrades to 6S for eveybody affected I would suggest. Though thats wishfull thinking. Nothing has worked even attempted to backtrack though DFU yet again same problems present themselves. Apple ID is screwed. Id like to know if Apple will reimburse me now for however long this takes in lost business...

Okay, had the exact same problem on my iPhone5 after updating to 9.1 over the weekend. When trying to load the Music app to play content stored on the phone, the new Apple Music splash screen just freezes. Looked at some of the comments on this thread and found that this worked for me...

1. Switch your phone off then on again

2. Select Airplane Mode then disable it

3. Access the App Store and try and update one of your apps that needs updating (you should have a few by now)

NOTE: You will be prompted to accept NEW T&C's before this will work. This, I believe, is where the problem lies. The general T&C's should be linked to the Music App but the frozen splash screen is not indicating the need to update and agree to these. After agreeing to the new T&C's in the App store my Music App loaded fine without any issues and I can now access and play my music content again 🙂

Hope this helps the rest of you...

Regards,

Gary

It's only been two hours so I'm saying this with caution, but it would appear that GARY'S SOLUTION WORKS. Reboot the phone, turn airplane mode on, turn airplane mode off, and then everything is normal again. I didn't actually have to agree to any new terms and conditions on the app store, which concerns me slightly, but after two hours of completely normal functioning I'm almost ready to say that Gary may have cracked the bug. Will update if anything changes though.

Let's all buy Gary a drink.

Gary's solution worked for me as well. Though only for about an hour. I was able to update apps and listen to Apple Music. Then after a playlist I listened to was over and I went to listen to another song Apple Music prompted me to join even though I'm on the free trial and just listen to music for an hour. I was not prompted to agree to any new terms or conditions after turning my phone off then turning Air Plane mood on and off and going to the App Store. I was so pumped too! Oh well hopefully a more concrete solution is made available soon. Thanks anyways Gary! 🙂

I tried this and all the other solutions suggested above. No success.

The one that worked for me was:

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

But I did have to try three times before it worked.

... Issues down here in South Africa too ;-)
