4th gen Apple TV - audio output

It appears that they've removed the audio port for the new model.

How are people hooking this up to the stereo now?

I was content with the optical. Not sure if I can upgrade.

I agree Don. This change alone has stopped me from upgrading to Apple TV 4th gen, and until they re-introduce the optical audio out, I will never upgrade to a newer model. The idea that I should need to have my TV on to listen to music is crazy. This was truly one of Apple's stupider decisions.

You can buy an audio extractor on amazon or you can run Hdmi out to your flatscreen through the ARC - Usually labeled HDMI+ARC (Audio return channel) and then run (If your flatscreen has it) Digital Audio OUT directly to your receiver. This worked for me, saved me $30 for an audio extractor and all I had to do was switch the inputs around - making the apple tv HDMI1 and Directv HDMI 2. FYI...Directv receiver has digital audio out and I run that directly to my receiver.
