Microphone not working with some apps after updating to iOS 9.1

Hi there,

After updating my iPhone 6 from iOS 8.4 to 9.1 (I learned to avoid first major updates the hard way) I noticed Siri wasn't listening anymore. First I thought something was misconfigurated from the update, but then I decided to do some tests with the headphones and it worked fine. I talked with some guys on the Apple chat support and they couldn't find anything wrong on the diagnostics. I already tried turning Siri off and on again, changing settings on voiceover and accessibility and did a factory reset without success. The weirdest thing is that voice memos, snapchat, video (from the camera app) and everything else is working fine, except the videos recorded within the Facebook Messenger app (and Siri).

Any thoughts?

HI basically the problem is with softwares handling wifi and cellular data. It's not a hardware issue. Things you need to try are the settings that effect usage of applications over wifi and cellular data. For example once changing 2g 3G choice made me solve this problem for my cousins iPhone. however miy cellphone when received same problem was solved by turning wifi assist off an option at the bottom of cellular menu. You can also try turning off data or wifi usage for specific apps.

no need to hazard reset and blah blah your phone.

I had the exact same problem and I just fixed it by slamming it on the ground real hard.

The old-school way exists for a reason.

iOS 10.1.1 + iPhone 6 and the issue is still there - mic does not work in Viber, Whats App and so on if the speakerphone is turned on, Siri does not hear me either. What are you doing apple? There's also a problem with the sound while recording videos in large and loud spaces. It all started after ios 10 update.

I read a similar post somewhere and tried it. It worked for a short while, but then stopped again. I have now updated to iOS 10.2, but the problem persists. As with the other posts, any app that uses the front mic does not work (goToMeeting, whatsapp, hangouts, video with front facing camera). They used to work. voice memo does work. I've tried all the various wifi/cellular changes suggested, but unfortunately this hasn't worked for me.

Hi,

a quick update. Spraying compressed air into the speaker worked for me for a little while. After a few days, it just stopped working again. The strange thing was hands-free calls worked.

Anyway, once I had enough, I ordered a replacement front camera and mic assembly and replaced it and it's been working perfectly ever since.

I only have the issue on a fe apps. All calls are fine and recording a video front facing.

Not sure if mine would be due to dirt.

I have now been told by apple that my front microphone needs replace. Not sure why it would just break.
