I've yet to figure this out but based on everything in reading here and other places you cannot physically or your own files onto this device. You can only stream across the network. Very disappointed. Why would I spend $200 on something that does exactly the same thing as the $20 Chrome Cast?? I want a device that can run independently from everything else. Why must everything be tied to something else? having to use your computer or phone to control another device is ridiculous. I could just hook my computer up to the tv.

Apple TV is a standalone device, it is the users choice whether they choose to stream from the cloud or over the local network. Only the 1st Gen device offered the ability to store content, however it was much more expensive and required syncing (so essentially tied to a computer). Chromecast has no UI and relies exclusively on another device in order to "cast" content plus if one is invested in iTunes/Apple Music there would no access to that content. Apple TV also has a dedicated remote (or the choice to use app/universal remote), Siri, native apps along with a dedicated store, and ongoing updates to the platform.

Yes I know that everything is synced through my itunes. What i am asking is how do I "transfer movies DIRECTLY to the Hard Drive of the New Apple TV? I got the 64gb version so I have some movies on the go that are actually "sitting on" the hard drive itself. The question is, How do I transfer some movies from my itunes library on my iMac and put them on the Apple TV? Do I hook it up to iMac using USB and just drag and drop? Or wirelessly transfer them to the apple tv hard drive? Thanks!

Since "First Look" reviews indicate the TV4 USB port continues to be a "maintenance service port," it seems most likely that physical syncing of content would be accomplished in the same manner a user streams his or her iTunes managed content—i.e., a user employing a wireless WiFi connection for streaming content would use the same wireless connection to physically sync a movie, TV show, home video, music album, photos, or app and a user connected via a wired ethernet connection would used the wired connection to do the same. This is the way the original TV1 unit worked.

Hmmm. Well my current AppleTV 3 doesn't show up on my "iTunes" and it's on the same network so therefore, how would content be transferred to the new AppleTV hard drive? I mean, the AppleTV 3 streams my content from my iTunes library just fine but, it doesn't show up on itunes as a connected device. I'm assuming since the New AppleTV 4 will have a physical "hard drive" much like my "iPhone", it will now show up on itunes and then I can transfer content "directly" to it much like syncing my iphone works correct?

I suspect the answer lies in the latest iTunes update and/or TV4 OS and how they recognize each other and work together—i.e., I expect the two will either have the ability to "push/pull" content physically or the TV4 may allow users to "retain/store" recently streamed content at the discretion of the user. At this point I was hoping we would begin to see some "leaks" of information or a downloadable manual as I have a ton of questions and am beginning to worry about a lack of any shipping notifications or at least find out where the units are actually shipping from if they are supposed to begin arriving tomorrow.

Now that you have the APT4, wondering how do you put movies "directly on the device" from your itunes library? Copy the movie to the APTV4 hard drive?

Like everyone else, still looking for an answer—if it is even possible. Have not found any way for the devices (computer platform and TV4) to "see" one another. Even so, I've been trying to figure out what the El Capitan "Bluetooth > Send File to Device..." option is really supposed to do. Only devices the systems sees and pairs with can't be sent files and, while my system "sees" my HDTV, I've yet to check the HDTV settings to see if it can really be paired with the system. Was wondering if this might be a way to transfer files between computer and TV4 devices...if it were to be activated at a later time since the system appears to be unable to "discover" the TV4 at this time.

Also had a problem with the audio. Following setup, I could no longer see AC3 DD5.1 surround sound. Instead, when I switch to my secondary (surround sound) audio track (default, tvOS system wide setting did not appear to do anything), output from the TV4 was received as Auto Surround, Direct, or Pure Direct 7.1 PCM on the receiver. Sound is fine but I am confused as to why the change. Along with this, the video data handling also appears to be improved. Previous "True Motion" settings above "Smooth" were jittery on my HDTV with the TV2 and TV3. With the new unit, settings up through "Clear+" play smoothly—I assume it is a result of a higher data throughput capacity.

Have a feeling it will take some time to really go through and study the changes, There are many things I like and many other things that simply do not work as I had expected them to based on initial descriptions by Apple and reviewers..
