Keyboard lag when typing messages in iMessage

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing lag when typing messages in iMessage. I have hand-off turned on and frequently respond to messages using my Mac. I'm running a MacBook Pro 15" Retina with an i7 processor and 16gb of RAM with literally nothing else running.

I know it's not a machine issue because I routinely spend my time in Adobe Lightroom and PhotoShop and never have any performance issues.

Not sure what's going on. Anyone experience the same issue?

I had the same issue on my MacBook Pro but when I turned off my school email in preferences for Contact it worked perfectly. No more lag. My school email is through Gmail. Thanks to everyone's suggestions.

Thanks for the info.

This is still the only thread that suggests it is Google's Contacts system that causes this.

Most people seem to post that they either have multiple accounts that try this after updating to El Capitan or don't mention what the second account they have is.

For me System Preferences > Internet Accounts turned On for Contacts my Google, AIM and Yahoo accounts as well as the iCloud one that was the Sync method in Yosemite.

It also presumed some Screen Name only for AIM IDs for Messages were also valid emails/contact accounts.

My Contacts > Preferences > Accounts looks like this now.

Only the last AOL/AIM account is connected to an Email account as well that might allow me to have contacts associated with it.
