Why is the Remote App not compatible with 4th gen Apple TV?
Is it Apple's plan to release an update to the Remote app to support the 4th gen ATV or are they ditching the app?

So we can scroll endlessly through alphabets and library lists using tiny 1" trackpad. 😠
I already really miss using the remote app and the scroll buttons on the old remote as scrolling around endlessly on the new remote is just TEDIOUS!!!
done
correct, this is simply going back to the very first Apple TV.
I submitted feedback as well. Unfortunately without knowing if this enhancement is being considered... my Gen 4 is on its way back to the store this afternoon. My passwords are too complex to deal with this input selection UI.
This is actually the first time in my 20 years of buying apple products, I've been genuinely disappointed. In my opinion the Siri remote is horrible. Symmetrical design makes it impossible to tell which way is up in low light. A one inch track pad, really? I simply hate this remote 100%. I will not upgrade my other ATV until this interface becomes something easy to use, like I expected from Apple. I also cancelled the plan to buy a couple of these as Christmas gifts for relatives. I'd be embarrassed to give them...I left feedback..... I hope this gets improved.... Soon
Note to Apple: The new Apple TV's clumsy keyboard layout, compounded by the lack of Remote app support and no bluetooth keyboard support, leads down a path to poor work-arounds such as this:
"Facebook has a fix for frustrating password entry on the Apple TV" http://www.theverge.com/2015/11/25/9803132/apple-tv-facebook-login-sdk
Do you really want to encourage your customers to use Facebook to log into accounts on their Apple TVs? Given your stated stance on user privacy, please rethink your Apple TV UI design (i.e. Think Different).
Yes, we desperately need the Remote app. My understanding is that Apple does NOT read these user-help forums, but they do read posts to their feedback channel every day. The new Siri remote has great potential if and when voice search works across all apps, music etc., but even if and when that happens, it won't obviate the need for text input via a remote app or BT keyboard for all those situations where Siri dictation isn't available, doesn't work or is a very poor, if not insecure, option. If you want your voice heard, use Apple Feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
II thought this too, but if you do anything else on your iPhone or iPad while the music is playing and has audio, then your music will be interrupted. So if you browse a web page that plays some commercial then it will start streaming and your music app is paused.
The one way the remote app is still very useful is if you have an iTunes server. You can use the remote app to play all you content on the server library through the ATV4. I was really hoping for Siri functionality with our own library, and for my library content to appear in global search results. I've always hated the need to scroll through long lists of music or film. i can only assume the search function doesn't use a local database but one held on Apple servers, hence neither local libraries or other services such as NowTV appearing in search results. Netflix must have agreed to share their library database with Apple. If this is the case, local search may never work, nor any service which cannot neatly tie in with Apples search database.
As has been said many times, having to type in an apple password in full view of everyone is an insane situation. It gives access to all my apple services including addressbooks, email, diaries, files and of course the ability to make purchases. Very poor.
Already sent feedback. Wind I really want you to stop blowing now. Did that too.
Still no solution in sight?
Another clear sign that Apple needs to fix frustrating text entry on the new Apple TV.
Hi
Instead of moaning wait & see if an app comes on to apps store
For Atv 4 remote .

I feel your pain! I just posted this as a request for enhancement feedback:
Once I found out that the iOS Remote app will not work on the ATV4, I decided not to buy the ATV4. Users complain about having to use an onscreen keyboard to input passwords, et al. I almost never used my previous Apple TVs because the remote was too clunky. Then I discovered the iPhone Remote app and that resolved my problems. I request that a remote app for iPhones/iPads, compatible with ATV4 be made available in the iOS App Store and when that happens, I'll buy my first ATV4.
Likewise on the feedback.
I have also sent feedback to Apple already, but I think it's important that we document our grievances about the ATV 4G in forums and social media so the discussion is indexed and documented rather than being privately held and hidden by Apple's customer service gestapo. I may be alone in this because I have never read this sentiment expressed by others, but I simply hate Siri in all her manifestations and the fact that the Siri Remote is being forced upon me with the new ATV makes me very angry and frustrated. To be fair, Siri is fairly sophisticated and I acknowledge it seems to work well for some, but it rarely works out for me. I often have to repeat myself to her, and she often gives me incorrect or irrelevant results, all of which ends up taking more time than it would have for me to type my query out to begin with (on an actual keyboard, that is; not including the monstrosity that is the letter-at-a-time Siri Remote methodology). And Siri searches don't even begin to cover most of the content that is available on the ATV, anyway, leaving much to be desired even when it works as expected. In answer to the OP, Apple, in their fashion, are trying to force users to use the Siri Remote because it serves their purpose. If you could connect a keyboard and mouse to your ATV, and download Google Docs or Office 365 - hey! Waddya know? You've got yourself a pretty capable computer! Maybe you can hold off on that new iPad or Macbook for a year or two? And if you could use your iPhone to control the ATV (it has all of the same capabilities), what incentive is there to use (and purchase extras of) the overhyped, overpriced and underwhelming Siri Remote? None, IMO. I truly hope Apple finds Jesus on this issue. I've owned multiple units of every generation of ATV and purchased numerous more for friends and family and I can honestly vow that unless they rectify these issues I won't be buying any more.
