Why is the Remote App not compatible with 4th gen Apple TV?
Is it Apple's plan to release an update to the Remote app to support the 4th gen ATV or are they ditching the app?

So we can scroll endlessly through alphabets and library lists using tiny 1" trackpad. 😠
I already really miss using the remote app and the scroll buttons on the old remote as scrolling around endlessly on the new remote is just TEDIOUS!!!
Remote is not working like it used to! Yes, I can use remote to move the cursor and use the keyboard, but once I connect to the Apple TV, I can't access my iTunes library from the remote app like I used to. I can access computers on the tv screen and then select my music and go to albums. But I used to be able to do all this on my iPad. The only thing devices lets me do is choose between Apple TV and my iTunes library.
I suppose can select my iTunes library, select my music and tell it to AirPlay to the Apple TV, but that's not the same thing.
Conceivably, the old way I could have different music playing thru the Apple TV and still play different music on iTunes on my pc's speakers right?
also how do I get the screensaver to work like the gen 3 atv when music is playing. Where it's just showing the current album cover and song and just st moving them on the screen?
SO, the remote app connects and I can use the keyboard to enter a Search request, except the Enter key does nothing, so the request is never processed.
tap on the screen, although you would think return would work.
You would think so, yes. I think I'll wait a bit longer to buy an ATV4, like after it's iterated to ATV5. I haven't even used my ATV3 since I moved to a new house in August. I just have these streamers to occasionally stream web content from a Mac and once in a great while, watch a movie or a trailer. Perhaps the next version of ATV, using this new hardware platform, will be less controversial.
I am glad that tvOS 9.1 may have re-enabled the Remote app, however, I never did get an answer to "Why doesn't the Remote app work with ATV4?" Was it never intended to work? Was it just a bug in tvOS 9? Do we feel that Remote app support is this something that future ATV/tvOS releases will support?
This is a user forum. No one here can answer "why". But since the remote app does work now the question is petty much moot as to why it wasn't working at launch...
Sorry for any confusion. 'Why' was somewhat rhetorical on the forum, as was "Was it never intended to work?" and "Was it just a bug in tvOS 9?"
The part that was an actual question to the Community is: Do we feel that Remote app support will be supported in future tvOS releases?
Just kind of a survey, before I actually call someone at AppleCare to find out if this was a bug in tvOS or was some sort of evolution to exclude Remote for diabolical mind control of viewing.
I do believe it will be supported in future generations. In fact it sounds as if it's going to be getting a major overhaul and improvement (in the first half of next year) in the remote app functionality - http://www.buzzfeed.com/johnpaczkowski/eddy-cue-on-apple-tv-app-store-best-of-20 15?utm_term=.daKEXwr1p#.umpE1vl65
My feeling is that with tvOS being a brand new OS that Apple wanted to limit the possible issues deciding to weather the backlash instead...
Thanks. That does sound reasonable and it's good to see the acknowledgement from E. Cue, that former ATV owners are a major component of ATV4 sales, which should reinforce all of our feedback to Apple.
Thanks 🙂
Did anyone figure out what changed in the remote app released the other day? Sounded like the old remote was working with the tvOs update.
the description says it made it work like the Apple TV 3 functionality. But that isn't true. Can't see the home sharing library thru the remote app like you used to.
YOu can only see it when remoting to the pc with the iTunes library.
OK. I unplugged the atv4 and reconnected the atv3 to see if the remote app still worked like it used to. It did. Starting remote and selecting Apple TV as my device brought me to my music (music on my cloud). There was an icon at the top of the iPad screen for accessing the touch screen control. At the bottom, there was "computer", so I could click and select my ihome sharing iTunes library. Then I could select albums and see all the cover art.
So I then reconnected the atv4, started the remote app and now it acted like the atv3. It brought up my music and then I could click on Computer at the bottom and see my itunes library. But t when I tried to play a song, I got the " could not access the resource" error. I then exited remote and tried again and then it brought up the screen fir scrolling/menu/keyboard. No computer menu on the bottom.
So not sure what is going on.
I had the same problems and have reported to Apple on Thursday night. They replicated the problem there so assume it has been escalated to support for repair. When I launch the Remote App it and select the device it immediately goes to trackpad functionality and I have no access to text window at all. Works fine with ATV3. The Remote App in use with ATV4 is very broken despite the recent update release.
I am not sure I understand the issue. I have ATV gen 3 & 4 and the remote app works the same on both.
when I open the app it has the trackpad functionality. But as soon as I enter a text field, the app switches to keyboard. Not sure whe you would want the keyboard visible if there is no text to be entered?
I can view my iTunes library via the remote app and select any media to play on any device...
MMine is doing the same thing as Dr M's exactly except it also then sometimes just vanishes. The entire app just vanishes - it doesn't crash so much as it appears to close up.
Yes, you can select an iTunes library as a device. But you should be able to choos atv as the device and then access your itunes library. There should be Computer on bottom of screen. Same idea as going to to your music via the tv interface only a lot faster and don't need tv on.
WIth atv3, as soon as you select it as device with remote app, it brings up My!Music first, not the trackpad. Trackpad is accessed by an icon on top of the screen.
Interesting. Mine does not do that? My remote app looks the exact same if I am connected to my ATV3 as it does when I am connected to the ATV4. Neither one has the "my music" that your referring to unless I go back to devices and then pull up the iTunes library...
I have an iPhone6 running 9.2 off of MacBook shared library stored on an external USB drive...
