Is anyone else seeing this behavior? My new gen4 aTV won't play some movies from my library - it says "this content cannot be played because it's format is not compatible with this device", but it plays fine on my Mac and my gen III aTVs whether I stream it or airplay it. The gen IV won't even let me airplay it which seems really crazy. What's going on? Otherwise I'm loving this box, but this is insane.

Still didn't work. It looks like it wants to start to play and then gives me the error message. Oh well.
Converting in iTunes works so does using handbrake and H.264 encoder but holding out for a fix as not re-doing all my movies and shows
The M4V Video option in MacX DVD Ripper Pro works for ATV 4. You can find that one under Common Video Profile/Mac General Video.
Yes that fixed it. I'm sure MacX DVD Ripper will come up with a solution or maybe it's Apple's issue to fix. Either way that suggestion worked. Thank you Ghostprafik
Is it just me or does the MacX Video Converter that you are referencing max out at 720 x 480 resolution?
Was hoping the fix released yesterday by Apple would sort out the encoding playback issue but still not working. Maybe next time.

Go to itunes enable home sharing on all apple devices including Atv 4
Also enable iCloud share .

Thanks Brian for response but that not the issue lots of people are facing. Depending on the software used to rip stuff the new ATV won't play them. You have to convert them using H.264 (Handbrake for example) and they play fine. I have already re-done 1/4 of my library and they are ok. Quicker than re-ripping DVD's as its already converted them and on my Mac it was taking 4 mins per file.
Its stuff that was done using MPEG-4 that won't play for me and lots of people.
For those of you who have re-encoded (not re-ripping) using Handbrake, can I ask:
1. Does the new file keep the original files metadata (image, description, title, etc)
2. Because you are re-encoding and technically compressing an already compressed file, are you seeing a quality hit?

I didn't realize that you could convert using iTunes!!!! If so, why are people using third-party software? So..where is this conversion tool you speak of within the iTunes interface. Is there a pre-set or do I have to muddle about with settings?

When I did that, it didn't give me any options for Apple TV, it just generated a new file, which was much smaller. You still have to replace the old file, and my sense was that it wasn't quite as good quality, but maybe that was an expectational thing.
Highlight a file in iTunes , then go File , Create New Version and pick a type
I have just redone all my CSI and didn't take too long , CPU ran at about 400% as opposed to 800% using Handbrake which killed my mac
Just gives you better compression but quality should be the same , I have not noticed a difference.
