Apple TV 4 Turns TV ON with CEC but won't turn TV off

Maybe I didnt leave it without power for long enough. I will try that when I get home. Thank you for the advice!!

HDMI cables are all "high speed". As I said everything worked perfect in the first week.

I'm having this issue on an LG WebOS TV. The most annoying thing is that the AppleTV does turn off my Sony soundbar (which is weird because the AppleTV is connected directly to the TV, which is connected to the soundbar). The TV then detects that there's no external audio output connected and changes its output to the TV speakers. So every time I turn on the AppleTV I have to go into my TV settings and change the audio output from the TV speakers back to HDMI.

Check the HDMI-CEC settings on both the TV and the soundbar.

Does Apple TV turn the TV on? Does it also turn on the soundbar?

TVs generally behave like they're the center of the system, and it's their job to command the peripherals. Apple's done a little trick to take control, but it may not work perfectly with all systems.

If you cannot get them to work the way you want, you may need to disable Control TV etc. in Apple TV.

This may be year late. But with my E series TV. I went into the system settings on my Vizio TV found the CEC settings, and changed it from "ARC only" to "Enable" then I went to the Device Discovery area of my Vizio TV and had it discover my Apple TV. Now my Siri Remote powers my TV off and on.

Since I upgraded my ATV4 to tvOS10 the ATV wakes up my TV but after I put the ATV into sleepmode the TV stays on. With tvOS9 everything worked fine. I already tried a restore, other HDMI-port and cables. CEC is enabled on both sites. Volume control via IR works fine.

TV is a Telefunken XU48A401.

I hope this is getting fixed.

SOLUTION: just direct your apple tv remote steering directly to tv/apple tv while switching on or off and you'll be fine.

We all have believed in apple tv remote working via wifi and CEC communication so much that nobody even tried this 😉 but it helped - at least in my case.

One thing I just remembered, a few days ago I also turned on CEC support on my PS4, maybe that's confusing the receiver?! Will do some aditional testing...

EVen if directly connected none of my devices can turn off my Vizio P series TV.

Mine will turn on and *sometimes* turn off, but the so-called change input feature doesn't work at all.

The knee jerk reaction in these forums has always been to blame everything on Apple. It couldn’t possibly be the TV maker who implemented CEC incorrectly.

Did the factory reset of the Apple TV fix it? I have the same issues as you.

I got it to work. It was just in my TV settings, for some reason the "turn TV on" was turned to OFF.

Having the same problem with Panasonic TV.

Apple TV will turn the TV off and control volume after setup but won't turn the TV on.

wonder if it'll get fixed in future software...
