Apple TV 4 Turns TV ON with CEC but won't turn TV off

I've got a 70" Vizio P series TV and a Denon Amp connected via HDMI to the new Apple TV gen 4.

The aTV will turn on the TV and Amp when I wake it up and it turns the amp off when it goes to sleep, but it leaves the TV turned ON. Other CEC functions work like volume control and input selection, just the power off for the TV doesn't.

Anybody got any suggestions??

Thanks!

i have same problem. The New Apple TV has messed up my hdmi-cec. When i pulled apple tv of the box it was controlling the tv power and volume. Now even after being powered on/off several times, it won't control tv or volume (even though its set to On to control it) and I now can't control the TV's volume from its own volume control more, i have to use the AV system's volume. Even if it turn hdmi control OFF, my tv remote won't control AV system anymore. Using old apple tv I was able to control tv volume from tv's remote, now even that doesn't work. Also I've had difficulty flipping from Xbox to Apple tv, (never had that issue before) , sometimes shows black screen instead apple tv, sometimes it shows several green screens then apple comes up. Also i have switched backgrounds from Aerial to Photostream -- several times, it wont' save it. it says its there, but then goes back to Aerial every time.

For reference i have a Sony Bravia.

Got the same problem. Got a new ATV4 a couple of weeks ago. All worked fine for about a week. Then, all of a sudden ATV4 stopped turning the tv on. and stopped changing to correct source if the tv is alreasy on. Really annoying as I have to change the source on tv to blueray reciever and then change the source on the reciever to HDMI 2.

ATV4 and PS4 connected to Samsung B-ray reciever. Reciever is connected to Samsung tv.

Everything else works perfect. 😟

CEC is a tricky critter. All I can suggest is to check the settings all along the HDMI chain to be sure CEC is enabled.

It sounds like you may have received an ATV software update. I find that power cycling the ATV after an update is required to put it back to "normal", so you should try that.

Why not connect ATV directly to an HDMI input on the TV? Is your bluray also a sound system?

I'm having this issue on an LG WebOS TV. The most annoying thing is that the AppleTV does turn off my Sony soundbar (which is weird because the AppleTV is connected directly to the TV, which is connected to the soundbar). The TV then detects that there's no external audio output connected and changes its output to the TV speakers. So every time I turn on the AppleTV I have to go into my TV settings and change the audio output from the TV speakers back to HDMI.

Check the HDMI-CEC settings on both the TV and the soundbar.

Does Apple TV turn the TV on? Does it also turn on the soundbar?

TVs generally behave like they're the center of the system, and it's their job to command the peripherals. Apple's done a little trick to take control, but it may not work perfectly with all systems.

If you cannot get them to work the way you want, you may need to disable Control TV etc. in Apple TV.
