Has anyone had a problem with their screen saver not locking? This just started for me after the firmware upgrade. I've tried to deselect the setting (in Security), reboot, reselect it, etc., but nothing has restored the feature to work.

I'm tempted to try to reset the SMC ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446), but since this isn't really a power issue, and the physical location of the unit and number of cables connected make me hesitant to do so.

Thoughts?

Well I've all but confirmed that the mini is actually working, I just can't see the display. The thing is even getting an ip address from DHCP and I can ping it. Too me, that says it should have nothing to do with firmware (well the loading of it anyway). You would think if the firmware was a bad load the whole thing would not work.

GRRR!!!

curious if you fixed this?
I have a Samsung LCD that also wouldnt get signal.

after rebooting 30 times, i found the following sequence works everytime:
1. turn off monitor
2. push power button and confirm pulse for sleeping mini
3. turn on monitor..
4. AT THE RIGHT TIME...which is when my monitor makes a beep sound about 5 seconds AFTER pushing its' power button
I WAKE the mini at this point by hitting any key.

Signal is accepted and off to races.
It is as if the TV has a SET PERIOD OF TIME when the signal must be present.

Sometimes if it is not recognized, I:
turn off monitor again, hit sleep mode, count to 4 and WAKE (via keyboard or mouse) the mini (which has slept for all of 3 seconds)

usually works

Obviously the new EFI firmware provoke problems with the I/O-interfaces. Some have problems with the monitor, some - like me - with external HDD.
Even the firmware update should fix some problems with the standby mode my mac mini won't get in standby mode anymore by itself. I have to force it to sleep.
It seems to me that there is need for an update of the update. Does anyone has an idea to talk to Apple about that fact without paying a lot of money?

Got my new basic model mini earlier this month (with 2Gb of memory). Just applied the firmware update without a hitch. Everything went as advertised. I booted and applied the update from the drive in the mini, which has no junk on it, just the pure system (I use it only as a rescue disk to do diagnostics on the other HDs). I normally boot from an external hard disk. I have three Firewire external HDs and a Firewire external CD/DVD burner all daisy-chained to the mini, and lots of usb junk plugged in everywhere. All usb slots on the mini are filled. I did not remove any of this stuff before applying the update. I have a Dell 19" LCD using the DVI connection. External speaker and Ethernet ports were also used.

Now that I can feel the glare of your burning eyes, I just offer this so that you might know there are idiots like me who, on occasion, just have dumb luck.

Well, I did the update with the external HDD disconnected and the updated worked very well. But now my HDD isn't working properly any more. When I try the check'n'repair utility I always get error messages.
It seems to me that the EFI update crashed my external HDD. I opened a trouble ticket at LaCie but there is no reaction until now.
On the monitor problem I found a "solution". I have an adapter from mini DVI to S-Video and now I'm using my TV as monitor. That works but the image is crap.Does anyone has an idea how to reset the I/O bus of the mac mini?

Update failed fatally for me. One-month-old basic mini (1.66, Core duo, 1GB of RAM). Ran the update, when it restarted I got the "whirling spokes" with the gray Apple logo, then the screen flashed to blue like it was going to start up in OS X, then back to the "whirling spokes" gray screen except - no "whirling". Dead stop, no action, computer stopped in its tracks.

Left it for half an hour, no change. Tried several times, no change.

Burned the firmware reset CD, that didn't work either.

Zapped PRAM, still nothing.

And here I am trying to use this machine to convince an office full of Windows users that Macs are a good choice in our business environment...

Dang.

Update:

Called Apple support, they walked me through the same
steps and concluded that I would have to bring the
mini into my local store.

Of course, no reservations so all I can do is show up
and hope I get in. Kind of underwhelming, and I am
not touting this to my partners as a good example of
why we would want to switch.

I thought you had to make a reservation. The Apple web site has a page for my local Apple Store and you choose a time and an hour and make a reservation for the Genius Bar. I haven't done it yet but will have to, for my dead Mac Mini.
