ATV4 homesharing 1080p buffering/file-loading issues

ATV4 1080p stops playing every 2 .5 minutes showing (buffering).using home sharing

ATV3 hooked up to the same gigabit hub does not stop and has no problems on the same connection

ATV4 when playing apple downloaded movie " inside out" 1080p
(home sharing) stops playing after 2.5min with the swirling buffer symbol, does not continue with movie after that (on its own)

resetting/ re-booting the ATV4 makes no difference.

ATV3 same movie, same connection, has no problems

Question, since this is not a hardware issue, is it an issue between ATV4 and iTunes 12.3.1.23 64 bit ?

not sure if this should be addressed to iTunes or TV4.

Regards

Apple TV (4th generation), tvOS

I have the same issue. I have reverted to my ATV 3 for now. I cannot watch my iTunes 1080p downloaded movies, through Home Share, on the new ATV 4 without buffering every few minutes. I have PC and Mac based iTunes Home Share servers on a gig network. When I put my ATV 3 back into my system, all is well. While swapping between the ATV 3 and ATV 4, I noticed that video quality through the older ATV 3 is much better than through the newer ATV 4 even though they are both set for 1080p, which is a bummer. Meta data from my movies and TV shows from non-iTunes sources, is not displayed correctly as well. I get the impression that the new ATV 4 was optimized for streaming from the internet and not as a player for home based video libraries, which is another bummer. Over all I am disappointed in the new Apple TV 4.

Just to add a +1 for me on the issue.

I also had a similar issue on my Apple TV v2, so I'm not feeling confident of any fix to this. I got it around it by putting my "media" machine onto ethernet and was much more stable but I don't really have that luxury this time.

Anyway, I know Apple don't really monitor or care much about people on forums, but sometimes if something gets enough attention it gets noticed through other ways, so here's my +1 of feeling all your collective pains.

In the meantime, I just hit Apple servers and stream the movie every time I want to watch it, which incidentally, doesn't have a problem despite travelling over the same wifi network

I can't confirm yet but about to do updates.

I did read elsewhere it preloads more of the file so hopefully this should help with "buffering". I also noticed the El Capitan release lists network improvements, so I'm about to do both.

As a side note, each time I suffer this, a couple of restarts and a bit of magic luck and then all of a sudden I can get through a film. Lets hope this latest update is the fix

The update today for Apple TV 4 has fixed the issue.

The buffer bar fills up at a tremendous rate and has not jumped back on any of the movies previously causing the issue.

thank you Apple for addressing this.

hope it is a fix for others too.

Correct I saw that also, and it buffers much faster than my old APTV 2 and 3 so major fix for sure

well the Apple TV is working perfectly BUT the movies are still pausing over home sharing with iPhone 6s and iPad even with latest IOS update today.

at least we are part way there, is anyone else still having issue with iPhone - iPad?

Never tried that actually if I use my iPad I use my relatively quick internet provider to just put a copy on the iPad.

Solved here too! Tried high bit rate movie

Thanks Apple

But makes you wonder, how do they test these things....?

Yes it sure does. Well in discussions here and other internet forums I though in some discussions where folks actually tried online to figure it out with apple engineers (as help escalated) the engineers they worked with said they did not have homeshare setup in their testing areas just doing via itunes - purchased -- internet and speculation was that homeshare was not a big part of where apple is/was focused??? So I do wonder
