SD Card Reader not working in Windows 10

Hi,

I have just installed "Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB" 64-bit to my MacBook Pro Retina. Everything is working, except SD Card Reader.

SD Card reader is not listing by Device Manager, but if I check "View + Show Hidden Devices" it is listing, but it is grayed.

According to device manager, the device is "not connected to the computer", but it is working when I boot in OSX. I have tried to reinstall the driver, but it didn't work.

Any solution?

Best regards,

Emrah AKYAR

I had the same problem as you while using Windows 10 Pro on Bootcamp (on my MacBook Pro, Mid 2012) and I think I found a solution for you!

I went into Programs & Features in the Control Panel (or just search "programs and features" in the Start menu) and opened it up. Then, in the list of all the programs, I scrolled down towards the bottom where all the Bootcamp drivers are (meaning the Windows Driver Packages). I selected the Apple SD Card Reader driver (if you can't find it, just search "Apple SD" in the search bar at the top right), and then clicked Uninstall/Change. Then I clicked Yes when the confirmation window appeared. Then I tried inserting an SD card into the reader, and it worked! It automatically installed a separate driver called "Broadcom SD SCSI Disk Device.

I hope this helps!

After the firmware update discussed here boot - macOS Startup Manager is very slow and laggy

the issue returns to the sd card issue experienced with bootcamp before the windows 10 anniversary update - SD Card Slot Disappears After Sleep (Gone Until Reboot)

I have posted a bug report to apple but have not heard back for 6 months: https://bugreport.apple.com/web/?problemID=29809345

Dear r3vOl,

Now, I believe that it is certainly a hardware problem. SD Card Reader is working properly if I don’t use my laptop for 2-3 days but, it is not working if I use it every day.

I also reinstalled “windows 10”, Apple SD Card Driver, Bootcamp, etc. several times. I tried all possible alternatives but I couldn’t find any solution.

My Macbook Pro Retina is 13-inch, Early 2015 and its model is 12,1

The installed operating system is "Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB" (64-bit)

While I was using windows 8.1, the SD Card Reader was working. When I boot in OSX there is no problem. But, in Windows 10 it is not working?

Is there any body using the same configuration? Should I reinstall "Windows 10"?

Hello,

Is there any permanent fix for this issue ?

In my MacBook Pro Early 2015 13", Windows 10 is not even showing any SD Card related thing in Device Manager.

Tried almost everything i could, reinstalled Windows, reinstalled Bootcamp drivers, uninstalled Apple SD Card drivers/Broadcom SD Card drivers, tried manual installation of SD Card drivers, but no luck.

Please help, thanks. 😟

You should take a look at that discussion if you're experiencing this issue yes. Previous to windows 10.1 I was experiencing the SD card dropping off after sleep, but after Windows updated I am now experiencing this on every boot:

in device manager I get this every time:

If I uninstall that unknown device, it resintalls just like that again. I've tried updating bootcamp drivers to the latest ones available several times. I've tried the suggestion in the post above to try without the apple SD card driver. None of them work.

Are other people getting the same on Windows 10.1? Read the other discussion you'll see talk of a particular Broadcom chipset...
