I'm having more problems with this new ATV!!
Getting a message, "This content cannot be played because its format is not compatible with the Apple TV" when trying to play movies from the home library.
They played just fine with the previous model. ***.
Any suggestions?

My solution so far...re-convert using MacX Video Convertor Pro. Latest version has a setting for New Apple TV. Uses h264 video codec and aac audio codec.
I've never really understood why people must use these little-known video converters when there are big names out there that repeatedly do the job well. I've been in this Apple TV community for almost 8 years now and for all of that time these video converters have regularly been the source of numerous problems.
I use MacX Dvd ripper Pro and it's always worked just fine. Now with the new Apple TV it wants to act up. It's an Apple glitch now doubt. We'll see if they get it fixed in a timely fashion.

Ahh so MacX DVD ripper seems to be a common element to these issues then. 😁 I rest my case. It's up to you what you want to do now.
I use makemkv/handbrake for probably 6 years and I still have no problem with any of my files.
Dlies the program u use convert with high quality? My program Gives me almost disk quality. Thats one of the most important things that I'm looking for. If you love yours so much, I'm willing to give it a try. Can you give me a link so I can try the program you use.
Handbrake (to the best of my knowledge - I've tested it but don't use it regularly) is fine so long as you stick with the presets, but it seems to be quite willing to break the rules if you enter manual settings. Unfortunately the vast majority of people don't know anywhere near enough to start fiddling with the settings, but this doesn't seem to stop many.
If you're doing any new rips from DVD, use the .m4v format. That will definitely work with the 4th gen Apple TV.

Compressor and Quicktime are used by movie studios to produce production movies, was that a serious question. Quicktime is free and is already on your Mac.
I KNOW I don't know enough! Lol. That's why use the "Apple TV" setting and highest quality and it's never failed me!
I hope you didn't think I was challenging your decision or aiming anything at you, it was just a general observation about handbrake.😎

Best I can tell, I don't have a choice to choose mv4 with macx DVDs ripper. I used to use handbrake and I found the quality wasn't as good hence the reason I went to macx DVDs ripper pro.

The quality is what you make it with handbrake, if it wasn't good enough it was you that made it that way.
And for the record, I'm not endorsing handbrake, I've already said I don't use it (I don't actually really like it), however over the years many thousands of people from this community have endorsed it and I'm not sure I've heard this MacX DVD ripper mentioned before. It's a bit like those restaurants you pass on the way home, do you go for the one that nobody goes to or the one that's so busy you have to book. 😉
Here's the problem though: MacX DVD Ripper Pro .mp4 files work without any problem in OS X iTunes and in the iOS 9 Videos app. They also work without any problem on ATV 2 and ATV 3. That certainly increases the odds that there's a codec bug of some sort in tvOS.
ATV 4 won't play my movies that play on ATV 3
