iMessage not working after update iOS 9.1

I finally decided to update my iPhone 6 to 9.1 because I was sick of the update notification in my settings. I really wish I hadn't. iMessage is INCREDIBLY slow now…particularly to the person that I text the most. iMessages take a long time to send which makes back and forth conversation very difficult. I googled and saw other people with similar issues, but have not found anything that will fix this problem. I tried closing the app, turning iMessage on and off, turning my phone on and off, and resetting network settings. Does anyone have any other ideas regarding what I can do to fix this? Never had any problems with iMessage until this update.

The problem is back for me. It was working fine for a few days. It seems like it works then does not work then it works again. Back and forth, back and forth. I hope Apple fixes this soon.
