Boot Camp Update 6.0 for iMac 5K

Apple Software Update has just popped up for me it contains the Boot Camp Update 6.0

Provides 5K support when running Windows via Boot Camp on iMac with Retina 5K display. Fixes an issue that may cause certain Macs to become unresponsive after restarting. Addresses an issue that may prevent certain Macs from waking after sleep.

5K resolution???????? FINALLY?? Yeah!!!

Confirmed, 5K Resolution, Text is now super crispy, well it only took a year to make it happen. Good Job AMD/Apple.

During the installation, the text is extremely TINY, so be ready to use the magnifying glass so you can change the scaling in Windows, but I can make out the text (yes the screen is that awesome). I installed the update in Windows 10 with the November update.

I hope I can still play "games", the drivers are provided by AMD and dated October 5th 2015.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null

i think you have to have the latest November 2015 version of Windows 10, if I know Apple, they are very limited in their product support for Windows, and you have to be on the latest Windows version.

This is a "Special" Driver version package and is not available anywhere on AMD's website etc, and likely to be the LAST one unless we all voice our issues at once if we have game issues.

This driver also pushes up Windows temp by a few notches, being summer in Australia might explain this 😝, I am getting idle 52-55 degrees. I am in OS X right now it is saying 45 degrees.

Hi!

Yes, it's true that the full 5K resolution is now available for Windows 10. I realized the same after the Bootcamp update via Apple Software Update.

Here the caveat though:

I had to roll back because I "lost" my 3rd monitior. The latest driver would only allow two monitors in the end.

Following setup worked before the update:

* Windows 10, Bootcamp

* 1 x iMac 5K late 2014 as main display

* 1 x iMac 27" late 2009 as 2nd monitor in Target Display Mode connected via Mini Display Port Cable

* 1 x Dell 2414Q 4K as 3rd monitor connected via Mini Display Port Cable

Does anyone else share the same or maybe a similar issue?

Thanks,

Martin

I also had to go back to the older drivers (15.200.1060.0) but my issues were different.

If I use the new drivers provided by Apple Software Update, my explorer.exe constantly crashes when I try to open any folder. Same for the control panel. I'm on Windows 10 1511 10586.14 on a first gen RiMac 5k. Going back to the older drivers helps with the explorer issues but the control panel is still damaged.

It also happens when I manually tell Windows to look for the most recent graphics driver online in device manager.

Anyone else having the same issues?

My last experience: Installed Windows 10, installed Boot Camp update on Windows and...nothing, but nothing different happened. Everything is absolutely the same as before. I made a simple test with 3PlaneSoft screensavers and they run like an old and slow locomotive climbing some hill!! Terrible. That annoying warning from AMD Catalyst is still there as usual. I feel cheated by Apple with this useless update...

Yeah, it feels a little bit like a letdown... however, I believe a lot has to do with Windows 10. There seem to be issues for many people not only Bootcamp users. But the driver support in the case of the R9 M295X is also a huge problem. I don't understand why AMD will not include the card in their regular Catalyst or now Crimson drive er package... I guess it would help many of us.

And that's something I cannot understand nor accept you know. Apple assembles this Mac, and the makes us a proposal: You can run Windows on it!!! That's just a lie because it is not running properly.

That is overstating the issue. You have a bad driver (and many others do not have the same issue). OSX and hardware work as designed. Windows also works, but not to your satisfaction. Option is that you buy a Windows PC, if the Mac is not fulfilling your needs.

That's what YOU think, but not what I THINK! I bought a very expensive machine which Apple announced could run Windows 10, but say nothing about incompatibility with 5K Retina display! So give me a break, I really do not care if you think wether there is "overstating" on this issue or not. The problem is, I have a problem that, ACCORDINGLY TO APPLE ADS, I should not have. Best regards.

Please return your iMac 5k since it does not meet your needs and buy a Windows PC. Windows is not supported by Apple, it is supported by Microsoft. You should be asking Microsoft/AMD for appropriate drivers. Apple provided you base drivers. There are many who can run 5K on their Windows machines. If there can and you are unable to, who is responsible for such a situation? You have 14-days (in many parts of the world) to be able to return your Mac. 5k works on OS X. Windows is supported on a best-effort basis, without any guarantee of parity.

Where is the Apple Advertisement which states that you can run W10 on an iMac 5k at 5K resolution? Please post a link, if you can find one.

You bought a car which has 0-60 in 4 seconds, but you do not have a road long enough to test, and you are asking the car manufacturer to build you a road so you can test their car? Very interesting.

What are you? Do you work for Apple? Did I ask you for help? Give me break! AND SINCE APPLE SAYS I CAN RUN WINDOWS ON MY IMAC 5K EVERYONE CAN IMAGINE THAT IT OUGHT TO RUN ON 5K. And please, no need to answer. Go take care of your own business.

Yes, by posting on ASC, you asked for help. I do not work for Apple. What break do you deserve? Where is this Apple statement about 5K on Windows? Are you lying? I am already taking care of my business, unlike you calling companies names without any comprehension of how things work. Your Mac runs and works on 5K on OS X.

You can install Ubuntu and ask for 5K resolution and call a company liar? Is that the role of an educated customer? You did not research enough, and bought a product in anticipation and it does not work based on your comprehension of an imaginary document.

Please post a link to Windows on 5K, by Apple. If you are unable to find it, do not make up imaginary statements and attribute them to someone else.
