Stay with Mac or Back to Windows

Hi, I have been a Mac user now since June. Prior to that I had been on Windows for 1000 years. ;-) I was a programmer before I retired so I do know a little bit about computers. I have invested literally 100's of hours learning Mac and especially Numbers. For the most part, the spotty help features aside, I have enjoyed learning. I have used Apple phone support very much and it accelerated my learning curve. Butlatest problem is Numbers. When I click on Numbers it freezes. I have to force Quit. This is after having the problem (with both Numbers and Pages) addressed last week by Apple reps.

I have a very nice Mac with 16 Gig of memory as I wanted to keep it a long time and I was planning on doing some programming. But one of the reasons I came to Mac is for the reliability. I was tired of blue screens on Windows. But I don't recall Excel or Word freezing. I am wondering if my experience is common or an out of the ordinary.

I have learned a lot from this community. Before I decide to go back to Windows I am hoping I can get the benefit of your experience insights. If you can shed any light on the pros and cons of Apple vs Windows I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

FWIW, after way too many years of using MS Office, Numbers, Pages, etc.

seem very foreign. If someone had never used Office or any other similar

product for that matter, the learning curve would probably fairly quick.

However, someone like us that have used Office for way too many years,

the Office way of doing things gets so ingrained that it actually makes it harder

to learn something else.

Instead of considering Windows machines, consider instead alternative software. After getting fed up

with MS Office, I personally switched over to Libre Office (free) which is pretty much compatible with

MS Office and not as traumatic a transition. Of course, there is still MS Office for Mac as an option.

Added:

The way I get around needing Windows machine for work is by running virtualization

apps. That way I can have Windows running as an app on my Mac.

I have also just made the change

First used Dos in 1984 through to win 10 with a flirtation with OS2 on the way so Windows deeply engraved on my soul

Started with a macbook pro passed down from a grandson to get a feel but .have now gone for a 27in iMac and packed up the Dell, looking for a home for it

I can understand your concerns but I have no intention of going back and have yet to find an issue that googling was unable to solve for me and as they say learning on the job is often the best way

I actually converted lotus 123 files ( yes 123 files )into Office 2007 and was amazed at how clean the conversion was and then into numbers where the presentation was even cleaner including the graphs

Very happy I made the jump

ps IBM are now moving to Apple for their employees and report significant reduction in internal Help Desk costs already
