Dark areas on iMacs Display!

I have noticed a small grey degrade on my iMac left bottom corner about a month ago. Recently I noticed the same problem on the top left of the screen, though not at the corner but a few centimeters close to the corner.
Does anyone know what this is? Can I fix it? Do I have to sent it for fixing?
Does anyone else have the same problem?

hello xiti, and welcome to the club!
Looked at your picture, looks exactly like my screen, and again the lower left corner. I'm thinking about having my display exchanged next week, but I'm afraid unless Apple acknowledges the problem and changes the material of the rear display cover, those dark spots are always going to come back sooner or later. I asked several local Apple Authorized Service Providers recently, they all claimed to have no knowledge of this issue.

Mine has the same problems too. Will probably get it replaced before the warrenty expires, but i've had this issue before on my ti powerbook and the repacement screen was a disapointment and had a red hue to it.
So hopefully thier not replacing the screens with B grade parts?
I think its a heat issue? Would like to no more!!!! 🙂

in the mac spanish forum one user has cleaned this dark areas, you can find a guide of imac screen cleaning in pdf with photos.
its seems that the hard disk or the processor heat are causing this dark areas, but it can be cleaned openenig the imac with isopropylic alcohol.

I have exactly the same problem... but i have my iMac
for more than a year, so its out of warranty. Anyone
had it fixed by Apple when the product is more than a
year old?

If your iMac is out of warranty and you didnt buy and register AppleCare for iMac/eMac (or something similar) before the end of the warranty, the Display replacement will be very expensive.
You could wait and hope that Apple offers a general repair extension program for concerned customers, but no one can promise you this will really happen, time will show.
You could also ask in one of the local Apple Stores, if you have one near to you, or via phone call.

I am joining this unwanted club. Se we are at least 14.

And you are right Steve310, this might be caused by the heat. When i touched my screen, it's warmer than other corners.

My iMac 20" core duo is one month to due the warranty. I am going to ask my nearest apple store, if they willing to give me a replacement.

Is there any DIY solution fir this problem?
My warranty is a month away, and i need my iMac. If i send it to Apple support i won't be able to work.

the same here, small grey spot in the down left corner!

i have iMac only one month so i have warranty.

but, will that fix the problem? will it happen again?

is this happening on every single iMac, or these are just exceptions?
if this is happening to only few of them, what caused that?

cheap manufacture? China? Error in assembling?

I have this issue on my 24" c2d iMac in the upper right screen (my right when facing it) and a bit to the left of the camera. I'm taking it in this morning. It started about 3 months after purchase.
I see this link has good pics of the fix process.

I printed it off and am taking it with me. I'm nervous as heck cuz if they replace, I don't want a screen with dead pixels, etc.
