iPhoto keeps crashing when I select Information

My iPhoto keeps crashing every time I click on Info. I tried rebuilding the iPhoto Library, but that just made things worse. Now, photos are stored in the wrong events, and things I previously deleted are showing up in the events. I tried creating a new iPhoto Library with a small number of photos, but iPhoto continues to crash when I select Info. I have also rebooted my computer numerous times, but this has no effect.

I am using iPhoto 11, version 9.4.3 (720.91). I have a MacBook Pro using OS X Mountain Lion, version 10.8.5. I have 8 GB of memory and 1 TB SSD hard drive.

Please let me know any possible steps to remedy the situation.

Thank you.

A lot of older versions of iPhoto 11 are having this right now:

Huxly647 figured out this fix

1. goto /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources

2. delete the files ' googlemap.html ' and googlesearch.html

Iphoto no longer crashes, places doesn't work but it doesn't bother me too much.

Thank you sooooooo much for this - you saved me from going insane!

My iPhoto had been crashing for a while every time and every time I attempted to open "info" - it crashed...

I could not figure out how to fix it, so I left it alone for a while and didn't use the info tab, but today when I went to import some photos from my phone, the application wouldn't stay open at all.

I tried running my disk utility, but that didn't work.

So I googled my problem, found your post, followed your instructions and hey presto! I'm back in business.

And your post was really specific, someone else posted a similar solution but they did not explain how to find "Show Package Contents" or how to get into to the Application files and the Contents and Resources folders the way you did, so thank you, thank you, thank you!

At first my brain didn't absorb how to get into the iphoto application file. I now understand to highlight it in Finder > Applications and then do the ctrl-click. However, before that, these clues about Places being the problem helped me find another workaround. Here's what I did, and it didn't involve actively deleting files or backing anything up first.

1. With iphoto open, look for the word "iphoto" in the upper toolbar and click on it.
2. Click on Preferences

3. Look for the Gear icon with the word "Advanced" and click on that.

4. For the "Look up Places" option, instead of the default "Automatically", click on the double arrows on the right side of the box to see the option "Never". Choose it.

Seems to have solved my crashing problem. YAY ! Wish I'd girded my loins and focused on this issue months and months ago.

This worked for my client's old Mac OS X v10.8.5's iPhoto '11 as well. It is weird that even though Places is set to Never in Preferences' Advanced, it still crashes. Renaming Google*.html files worked. Is there a way to always hide that misleading not connected to the Internet message?

User cotton-x's published a clever fix: Instead of removing the html files to prevent the javascript from being executed, you could patch them to make them work again. This can be done by replacing Apple's old access key by a private, new access key for Google's servers: See this user tip (the last paragraph): https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9421

Thanks, but my client doesn't have and want a Google account. :/
