CarPlay Will Not Connect or Stay Connected

I just got a 2016 Honda Civic and was excited to try CarPlay. It worked great... once. Since then I have had to restart my phone before turning on my car to get it to work again, and to make things worse the car will connect over Bluetooth for a few seconds - long enough for music to start playing - and then it "can't connect" to my phone even though the music continues.

I tried using a different lightning cable, which just gave me false hope. The phone connected briefly and the CarPlay screen appeared on the phone, but then it promptly disconnected again.

This is very frustrating. I don't want to power cycle my phone every time I get into my car. I don't know if this is Honda's problem or Apple's, but I can find zero information about it on either company's sites, possibly because my car is so new.

On my Honda Civi 2017 EX-T, Apple Carplay will not start anymore.. Worked for about a month and now, nothing!!!

Changed the Cable and even tried with My Wife's iPhone. Very disapointed

I also deleted all the Carplay Profiles on My iPhone and also removed my iPhone from the Honda System... Nothing

I do not have any VPN profiles. I will call my Honda Dealer to see if there's anything they can do but At this point, it is unclear if the issue is The Honda System or Apple Carplay. I will also test with Android Auto to see if it's working... if it does... Well I guess I will have to swith over to the other side. I didn't by the Honda Civic Touring because I was able to user the GPS on my iPhone using CarPlay. I was also dispointed that Google Map wasn't available and/or Waze.

Interesting!

I have the 2016 Honda with Carplay and I've been plagued with "This device is not compatible with Carplay" or "not connected" messages with my iPhone 6 Plus. I'd unplug the Apple cable, turn it around and plug it back in again. Sometimes that would work.

Yesterday I got my iPhone 7 Plus and tried it and it disconnected after a couple of minutes. Worked great for the 40 minute drive into work this morning, but driving home, no such luck.

I checked just now and did find a VPN app and vpn profile that I deleted. We'll see if that helps. Thanks much!

No VPN app for me either - but at one point I did have one.

Curious if a complete restart of your iPhone 6+ (same phone I have) resolves at least the "Device Not Connected" message / issue for you?

If I restart my iPhone before I plug it into my 2016 Civic Touring then it works almost every time (can't recall a time that it has not.) Have yet to find a reliable workaround for the "...device is not compatible..." message short of not leaving my iPhone connected to the car when I shut it off - but then I'll run into the "Device Not Connected" message when I plug it back in.

This is a very tough issue. You don't know if it's the phone's hardware or software, the cable, or the car's hardware or software.

How do you troubleshoot something like this and who even would do the troubleshooting? Does Apple have any kind of relationship with the vehicle manufacturers where their support teams can work together on a problem? And how widespread a problem is this anyway? And how many people having the problem would even report it or know how?

Yeah, this doesn't help at all, but I've been trying to figure out where to start with this beyond doing what's worked for others.

I have this issue but was able to reduce the incidence.

Not sure if car specific, I have a Porsche Macan, but maybe woth a try.

I use a regular apple cable and iPhone 6.

1) plug in phone before you start the car.

2) give it a minute before you turn on the car. I plug in before buckling up. even with the car off, I think the system still recognizes the connection.

3) turn car on.

4) when done driving, turn car off, wait a bit again, then disconnect phone. I had the best luck when opening the door to signal to the car a complete shut down of the media.

The only issue I run into now is that on a long drive or if I switch back and forth too frequently between the tuner and other screens/functions and carplay, it will ramdomly disconnect on its own. But I am able to be on carplay 90% of the time vs. lucky it even connects.
