Can't type anything on Safari's address bar after El Capitan update

I recently updated to El Capitan yesterday and had problems with my safari ever since. Every time I type anything on safari's address bar, nothing shows up and it's very inconvenient as I use it to do google searches and visit websites.

Yep, same problem to my iMay. I updated Safari a week ago and this morning – without changing a thing since I finished working yesterday evening – I couldn’t type nothing in the bar above. Reboot or else doesn’t helped … sometimes text is doubled as described before. Very annoying!

The Safari version I have is 9.0.3, and my OS is 10.10.5

It seems a regression of the last update (9.0.3 (11601.4.4))

To make it working do the following:

Safari --> Preferences --> Search tab --> uncheck ALL checkboxes

Close and restart Safari.

It worked for me.

Then I enabled again the first checkbox (closed and restart Safari) in order to have the search engine within the address bar.

Hope it helps.

The same is happening on my computer and on 2 other computers at the office as well. No autofill when you start Safari and after you went to one page, the address bar is bugged and you cannot go to anything else anymore.

Some information that might be useful:

  • No problems in other browsers
  • Same problem on different computer-accounts
  • I upgraded to 10.11.3 a week ago. This morning the problem occured for the first time on my machine and on two other machines at the office as well. Yesterday the 3 machines worked fine. This morning when they where tuned on, they had the issue. So what happened this night?
  • Bug occures on different versions of OS X (10.10 and 10.11) and so on different versions of Safari (8.0.8, 9.0.3)
  • I deleted cache, turned of extensions, deleted history, cache, plist and the whole safari-folder in Library. Still the same issue.

Update. More computers infected at the office. We have a Mac-only environment and I start to hear more people complaining about the issue.

Hi All,

Have just started to experience the issue that when i click in the address bar safarai closes with an application error.

I am running version 9.0.2 and have never experienced this issue before now. I can access my bookmarked address that are in the menu bar but as soon as i click in the bar, safari crashes.
