Can't type anything on Safari's address bar after El Capitan update

I recently updated to El Capitan yesterday and had problems with my safari ever since. Every time I type anything on safari's address bar, nothing shows up and it's very inconvenient as I use it to do google searches and visit websites.

This strange Safari problem only began today. I couldn't type anything into the address bar nor would favourites show in the drop-down box. And if I did try to type into the address bar it seems to trigger all kinds of strange behaviour including addresses being over-printed in the address bar. I tried all of the fixes I could find including running Disk Utility and trashing the cache.db file.

But nkanter's suggestion of unchecking all the search boxes in SEARCH preferences and then quitting and restarting Safari -- now *that* did the trick. Thank you.

Hey! Wow, it's been such a long time since I've used the PC88mx with Logic. In fact, that was back in the day when I was still with Wife 1.0, who still has the PC88 I think. LOL. 😀 I looked just now on my studio computer, and I don't seem to have anything anymore for Logic's Environment. According to Spotlight, I only have two files related to the PC88 - an old Digidesign file (for ProTools) and a really old file (that I think is actually just an alias) for OMS of the factory names.

Other than that, I don't think I have anything related to the PC88 anymore. Sorry about that! The PC88 was a great keyboard.
