Why won't music selected play right away instead of being asked to 'Play'or 'Cancel' beforehand?

When I click on a tune listed in my library I always get a prompt asking me if I want to Play or Cancel. This has never been the case before. How can this be removed?..........Can anybody here rescue me?

Thanks for your response.

I am unable to produce a screen shot, however, I will describe what exactly happens..............

When I click a selection choice a small box appears at the top middle of the screen (overtop of all the music listings) and it reads as follows:-

You are about to start playback. Do you want to clear the 12 songs previously added to 'Up Next'?

There are 3 choices:- PLAY SONG, CLEAR SONG, CANCEL.

iTunes 12.3.1, Windows 10 Pro (November update), 32-bit. No Apple Music, no iTunes Match - all media in local library. I can't say I've encountered this in routine operations - since I don't make any use of the Up Next feature - though I have seen the prompt on the rare occasions when I've inadvertently added songs to the Up Next queue (probably as long as the feature has been present - AFAIR this was added in iTunes 11).

Yes, that's what's supposed to happen when you have songs in the "Up Next" queue. When there's anything in this queue you'll see this icon in at the top of the iTunes window:

User uploaded file

If you click on this icon, it will show you the list of songs that are queued, with an option to clear the list:

User uploaded file

If the up next list isn't empty, and you double-click on a song in your library or in the playlist, iTunes needs to know whether to play this song and then those in the up next queue, or to remove the content of the queue. That's the prompt you're seeing:

User uploaded file

To avoid seeing this prompt, simply clear the Up Next queue as above, and don't add anything else to it.

What version of iTunes are you using? Your profile says you are using Windows 7. You can create a snip of the page showing this error screen by using the Snipping Tool that is part of Windows 7. Sounds like something to do with the Up Next list, but I could not duplicate it. Where are you going to play this song, double-clicking it in the song list in the library?
