iTunes match is automatically downloading songs to phone

iTunes match is automatically downloading all songs to my iPhone once they have been matched/uploaded. I don't see any settings to stop this and only download specified tracks. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem here. iPhone 5, latest iOs. Became a match subscriber recently. Seemed to work after a false start of rebuilding my 55.000 song library (which was okay with a backup and XML for playlists I made). Since 2 days ago: draining battery, 0 bytes free. Since I added a bunch of new music to my library.

Only solution is disabling iCloud Music Library on the iPhone. You know... The biggest reason I bought iTunes Match.

'It just works' and a combination of elegant, and simple BUT powerful software, seem more and more things of the past...

My solution was:

contact AT&T -- they gave me an extra 10GB for free

contact Apple and cancel Match (or at least turn off iCloud music library)

contact Apple customer relations to get them to deal with the legal issues and give you your money back.

wait until iOS 9.3 comes out cross fingere and hope it's not even worse (like Apple's software development trajectory suggests)

other possible solutions:

do not turn on iCloud music library until all music is uploaded. For me I gave up after two weeks. It seems that after you turn it on any new music added to Match is automatically loaded to your phone, so in my case after 2 weeks I had prob 40GB of matched music, but over the next week iTunes uploaded another 80GB... and some unfortunate UX developer who probably lost their job decided that all of this "new music" should be on my phone because it's logic is based on the Match library not your iTunes.

Apple has to provide the "solution", but there is a "work-around" that has meant that I have been able to use iTunes Match (actually Apple Music, but it's the same issue) for several weeks since encountering this problem. I describe the process here. Others have confirmed that this has worked for them. It means that I can continue to use Apple Music without any serious problems until they finally come up with a fix. I have no idea why it is taking them so long.

Add me to the list of affected users.

Just turned on the 3 months Apple Music trial (family option).

Library of 36k songs on iMac.

Had to re select update library for uploads to being in the first place but uploaded around 15k songs within hours (thought that was quite good / fast!).

Have not turned on Apple Music library on iPhone - no problems.

iPad (4th generation), turned on, trying to download around 15k songs.

Whole iPad experience has now slowed down to being barely usable.

Can't seem to switch off the Apple Music library now - keeps going!

Given that I haven't switched this on, on the iPhone, I guess I will either wait to see if this gets fixed or I'll never be able to sync a new track to my iPhone unless I purchase it from iTunes which makes a mockery of paying for Apple Music.

The whole experience works beautifully on my 4th gen Apple TV, and my kids and wife can do what they like on their devices, so there are benefits, but also quite a lot of pain!

Not impressed.

I have had problems with the Photo Library since the very start and no one at Apple has a clue. I have also had problems with iTunes Match and my music files with the update that introduced Apple Music. It only has gotten worse in between calls to apple tech since I wasted money on Apple Care. Even the senior tech know very little about almost anything. Don't expect a fix for this any time soon because Apple is too busy preparing the next big money maker. Meantime, it seems likely it's something with newer releases of iOS because I did not update my iPhone 4S after 8 since I got wind of the slower speeds that caused. Fortunately I use that iPhone to stream my music. I just am not sure what I can safely do with the growing mess on the 6 plus. I have 128 GB which had plenty of free space until recently. Now I am quickly running out of space. With the way Apple insists on synching everything, I'm afraid if I turn iTunes Match off on 6 plus, it will delete all the songs on iCloud even though I use them on 2 other devices.
