I had previously done a boot camp on my Macbook 13-inch mid-2010 laptop years ago. However recently I have updated my Macbook's OS X to El Capitan Version 10.11.1 and now Windows crashes with a blue screen of death every time I try to load it. I can only assume that updating the Mac OS X is the cause of the problem. Therefore is there anyway I can alleviate this situation?

I think I am going to accept the fact I won't be able to run the XP partition on my Macbook from now on.
You can run WXP on you Mac, but you will need to do it without using Bootcamp Assistant. Is there a specific reason not to pursue an upgrade installation of WXP on your specific Mac?
I'm hesitant to do an upgrade installation because:
A. I don't know how
B. I'm afraid that if I screw up, I will make things even worst
C. Not exactly sure how to backup my Mac OS X system

2. The worst-case scenario is you will have to install a fresh copy of WXP. This is why you should back up files that you can see now, in the eventuality that a clean installation is necessary.
3. Be aware that the following tool (Time Machine) will not/can not backup Windows.
