iPhone storage in iOS 9.2

I have an iPhone 5s 16 GB model. I recently updated to iOS 9.2. Upon updating I had some storage issues so I deleted some apps and removed music. Then for some time I had ample space of around 1.6 GB. After 2-3 hours my phone again prompted me that the storage is almost full, so I checked the space and was surprised to find out that the phone was using 11.7 GB(max) and had 0 bytes remaining. I then manually counted the storage and I found out that the actual storage that was being used was only 6392.3 MB. While using iOS 9.1 I did not have any storage issues and had plenty of space remaining with all the apps and music. This is very frustrating. Please help me!

When you launch the mail app, does it crash immediately? Toggle Airplane mode on and then go to the Mail app to see if there's a message in the Outbox. If that's the case, perform a full backup using iTunes, wipe the device, then restore the backup. Please let me know if that helps.

No, the mail app doesn't crash. On turning on the airplane mode, it just says that no internet connection available.

Thanks for confirming that. With the device connected to the internet, would you mind checking if any of your apps crash a few seconds after being launched? You can tell if an app crashes if you suddenly find yourself at the home screen.

Anyone found a solution to this? I updated to 9.2 yesterday, and now have 0 storage left. A massive 8GB is taken up by 'other'. I've already reset the phone yesterday, but today it's back to the same as it was.

Since my last post I found an app that sorted me out: PHONE CLEAN. Down load it and install on your PC or MAC and you are good to go!

The phone clean app mentioned by Chemosit solved my problem. It cleaned 1.1 GB in my phone. Resetting and restoring is just temporary solution but I guess the effects of using this app is permanent.

Just to update - after several attempts at solving this issue by setting up the phone anew (not from backup), I started checking usage after re-installing each app. I discovered that the main issue is down to using iCloud Drive - after I switched this off, I regained more than 7GB of storage space!

The same discovery that I had this week!!! Actually I disabled iCloud Photo and iCloud Drive did not activated none of then yet. My iPhone remais with a lot of free space, almost 7 GB. I'll try to enabled iCloud Photo first and see what happens.

A thought: since there's 1 TB iCloud plans and only 128 GB iPhone, no way iCloud Drive is trying to download all files to iPhone...

I disabled iCloudDrive only, and I got 6 GB free again :-)
