Siri Not Working Correctly on 6s

Hey there,

I just got a 6s last week (had the 6 previously) and Siri hasn't been working well at all on this phone and I don't know if this is a known issue or maybe just me. It seems very spotty, certain tasks she does just fine, while others she gets caught on. I have the current iOS update (9.2 at the time of this being published), and this is an issue both when I'm connected to wifi (have tried on several networks) or using cellular data. These are some examples:

"Schedule lunch for tomorrow at noon"

"Okay, I've set up your lunch. Shall I scehdule it?"

"Yes"

*thinks for a minute*

"Sorry, Chris, I'm afraid I can't do that."

"Call Eric Thompson, mobile"

*thinks for a good minute*

"Sorry, I'm having trouble with the connection, please try again in a moment"

What's my Dad's cell phone number?"

*long delay*

"Uh oh, something's wrong, can you try again?"

But adversely,

"Do a web search for cookie recipes"

*split second*

"Here's what I found..."

"What's the weather like today?"

*split second*

"Okay, here's the weather..."

It seem like there is a pattern that issues come from things connected to my personal device (e.g. calendar, contacts) but standard queries (e.g. weather, web search, GPS directions) are no problem. Would love to know if this is a common issue and any ideas on what I might be able to do to correct it.

Thanks!

Try the following all-purpose steps for dealing with erratic device or sync behaviour. They assume that all of the content you want on the device is in your library ready for restoring. If it isn't see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first. I would also recommend you copy everything out of the camera roll if you haven't already.

  1. Backup device. (To iTunes, over USB, with your laptop on power, make sure it doesn't sleep)
  2. Restore as a new device. (Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support)
  3. Restore the backup you made earlier.

Use an encrypted backup if you want to preserve passwords, Wi-Fi settings, web history and health data where appropriate. I also suggest syncing with a selection of playlists (unless you're using iCloud Music Library) rather than manually adding content as, if nothing else, the process above is easier to do if you ever have to go through it again.

Unfortunately the backup and restore solution only worked for a week. Now all of the sudden I'm back to the original problem. Siri cannot make any calls, cannot text anyone and in general just answers everything related to contacts with "something went wrong" or "I cannot do that right now".

I've been using Siri on my iPhone 5 for three years every day (on my way to work and back) always with the latest iOS version. No problems whatsoever. Now I got a brand new iPhone 6S two weeks ago and I'm stuck with these problems. Siri ist just out of order. Really hesitating to do another backup and restore because it takes some time to set everything up again (e.g. touch id and some other things).

I have had the sae problem after upgrading from my previous iPhone 5s to a 6s.

It appears that the problem stems from one of the applications that had been used on my previous iPhone 5s. When I upgraded the phone, I restored from a backup for my previous phone; this seemed to be the heart of the problem, but after trying to restore from a clean slate, and simply importing each application for my previous phone to the new one, the problem returned shortly.

Finally, I think I finally found the only real solution to this issue is to simply start again from scratch, and install the applications you use, as required. One of the applications that was transferred over has caused this problem, but the only solution that I have seen work successfully, and return Siri to normal, has been to do a CLEAN wipe of the phone, and reinstall from the App Store the applications you need.

I'm convinced this is a iOS 9.2 issue and not hardware related, so, restoring won't solve it or won't be more than something to keep you occupied rather than an actual solution. I can say this because it had previously happened with my old 6 Plus. I recently traded that in for a new 6s, which was immediately upgraded to iOS 9.2.1 while still in the store before I'd done anything else. Siri has not been able to perform any tasks I ask her to. So, this is not a hardware issue and I'm pretty sure Apple is aware of it since I've been reading that 9.3 isn't having this issue.

This is happening to me on my previously perfectly working original owner) 4s. This morning I asked Siri to read my mail and she said there was no mail. I knew that not to be the case so I asked again and was then read the latest three, just like always. She asked if I would like the rest of my mail read and when I replied yes, she said something like "I knew you would " and then shut off. What gives?

I have about had it with Siri. She is pretty ignorant. Sometime she can turn on my lights, sometimes she cannot. Sometimes she can start playing the song I requested (ON the iPhone) and sometimes she cannot. I use Siri to control my Hue lights - I have a total of 5 Hue Lights and 2 iDevice switches. Why in the heck can Siri only find them, SOMETIMES?? I usually have to ask her 2 or 3 times before she can find the HUE lights. NOT handy at all!!!

Resetting the iPhone is a pain in the butt - and its even worse on my iPad Mini Retina (1st gen) - Apple needs to start concentrating on getting their stuff to work and stop releasing half-assed products.. I'm about to rip out all HomeKit crap and replace with Amazon's Echo. My family has Alexa and she NEVER has an issue with any of their lights. But Siri, have the time she can't do anything for their lights. IRRITATING!

Yes, I have the newest Hue Bridge (HomeKit enabled) and I have a 4th gen Apple TV - my routers are an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express - EVERYTHING is running the newest firmware and OS.

Siri on the iPhone 6s is gettign worse and worse with every update! I am sick to death of having to reboot my phone to get Hey Siri to work. Her voice recognition is lacking. She misinterprets simple commands all the time! IF she even answers!! My Amazon Echo has no problem understanding me from 6 inches away to 15 feet away. NOT Siri. She doesn't even recognize Hey Siri, when she is supposed to.

It is irritating as **** when I use Siri to turn on/off all my lights and some devices plugged into my iDevice switches. Luckily, Amazon Echo handles it much better.

I would like to start using Siri again, but will not until these issues are fixed.

I have an Echo. I like it. But, yes, I do sometimes have to tell it twice to turn lights on or off.

I use both Siri and the Echo. Siri is much better for fine control of Hue lights. One thing I've noticed, is that the new Hue app performs much better for me in general. The old one had some issues playing nice with Siri. Download the new one and try it out. Don't delete the original as it has some differences in features. You can keep both on your phone and use both.
